RSS Feed and Forum Post Circle Thingie

I am trying to get an RSS Feed to load in on the front page but it is NOT showing up.  Instead I have the dreaded ever spinning unloading circle spinning around.

I took the forum post thingie off the front page as it too had the circle that never loaded - even removed it from my forum page because of the problem.

The Boonex news feed had the same problem but there's no good reason for me to have kept it on my front page since it has nothing to do with the site topic.

So, I snooped about and found similar posts in forum by folks with similar problems and the typical solution to make sure that

allow_url_fopen = On

doesn't work as my allow_url_fopen is ON.

So . . . what now?  How can I get this sucker to work?

The site is at http://trancesociety.net/community/ and is a new install that we're putting together as a community outreach project for a niche society.

I am a tech-noobie so please assume I'm an idiot, but a well-meaning one.

I had the same problem, went in and double checked my cron, I had it setup wrong. Fixed it, my feeds worked that instant. Try that
