RSS Feed will not load

I will make a quick refernce

http://www.boonex.com/unity/forums/?action=goto&topic_id=RSS-Feed-won-t-load

I just installed 6.1.4

allow_url_fopen is not enabled on php.ini and due to the security risk it probably will not be.

My question is, what is the work around?

I know that ini_set canf the cURL function can be used from what I have been reading but I am not a programmer. Has there been a change or an addition to any file for this. Thanks in advance

allow_url_fopen is not a security risk if you set up your server properly.  This means taking all the proper measure to deter hackers with things like:

Bruitforce

mod_evasive

mod_security

port_sentry

and some other tricks that can be pulled off.  So the choice is really yours, enable the server in a secure environment and turn it on or remove RSS Feeds from your site.

Hey I am just looking for a work around if the host will not enable it. For it not being a risk there sure is a lot of articles written on it saying it is. Anyway, so I guess the answer it disable rss feeds or drop the software. Appreciate the help!

I was losing my mind - if you take the URL of a feed that starts with feed://**** and replace it with http://**** it works. Was pulling out more hair than prudent given my hairline before trying this. It seems to work.

There is a problem reading very complicated URLs though

Thanks for the direct answer in laymans sir. Unfortunately mine starts with http already.

I had this working perfectly then I visited the site and its suddenly stopped working - now all I have is a spinning ajax loader. Tried RSS, Atom, http://. Not working. Anyone else know why? Nothings changed on my servers php.ini as far as I'm aware. Default settings on the host in question are

allow_url_fopen = On
allow_url_include = On

So that would rule out the answers so far IMHO.

Any ideas people?

thx
