Is there a way to remove the footer from the beta? I could have sworn that someone mentioned there was a tick box you could use but I can't find one. I intend to buy the license when it launches but I'm having people come and do some poking around in it now and I'd rather that not be there while I have others on my site.
Thank

I don't think that option is in Beta 6, or at least I havent found it. I read it on here too.
My problem is I DO have a license and when I entered it, the footers are still there. They disappeared on Beta 5, but not this one for some reason.

That is the whole purpose of the license Vagabondette. The banner ad in the footer is the price you pay for the free version. |
Like Caltrade said, that will be there on the free version. Also, it's just a beta so I wouldn't be worrying about the final look of the site just yet. There will be at least more beta before the RC's start. You will have to delete this beta to get the next one working, then again for the subsequent RC.
|
Then how do you explain my situation?
I have a ad-free license and my beta is installed off the root of my current dolphin (ex. www.mysite.com/beta)
My footers are still showing in everything. They disappeared when I had Beta5 installed but wont go away on Beta6. This may be "just the way it is". Does anyone else have this same issue?

Not for me Zarcon, my footers disappeared on D7B6 - did you do a fresh install or some kind of upgrade? |
I did a fresh install. I gonna try a Jedi Mind Trick on it and see if I can reset the key by removing it.. then re-adding it. Who knows.. Nothing to see here |
buaahhhhhhahahaha.. Wouldn't ya know it.. I went to my license and saw there was a "free" license as well for my domain. I removed it and visited my site again and no footers... hmm.. coincidence?? Nothing to see here |
@ Caltrade & Footman
Thanks for the responses. I'm aware of the reasoning behind the license - which is why I said I'm planning on buying one. However since this isn't a production site and I'd heard others mention it I was curious. I'm going to have people coming in to try to break the site and I'd rather what they see be as close to what i plan on doing as possible. I'm also aware that there will be at least one more Beta but I'm not sure what that has to do with my qusetion...
Thank

And if you could click a button and remove them in the beta then why would you ever upgrade to the final version and get stuck paying to remove them? Doesn't make much sense does it.
I think what you saw was a couple people said that if they installed in a subdirectory of a domain that was already licensed that they were using the same exact license code and it was removing the footers. Not sure how true that is as I've never tested it myself.
Why not just buy the license now if you know your going to be running Dolphin and get it over with, avoid people seeing the boonex ads and so on.

Because last time I talked to a staff member about it pricing had not been ironed out for the D7 license. So, while I'm 99% sure I'll use it there's a chance I won't if it turns out to be too expensive. I don't want to commit to a licence until I know for sure what the price will be.
|
Licenses will probably go up if there will be an change in price. However the D6 licenses will work on D7, so it'd probably be best to buy it now than to wait and end up with it higher.
I've seen guys play this game in the financial markets with rates and rarely does it go the way you want it to go. Better to buy now and have them go down and yell at yourself for that than to have them go up and then your stuck because you can't afford them.
|
... I'm also aware that there will be at least one more Beta but I'm not sure what that has to do with my qusetion...
It was a tangential comment about the relative necessity of doing design work to an install that will be deleted at least once more. Meaning, in my opinion, it's a waste of energy.

They work now. But I've seen discussion about having to upgrade your license to a B7 license and having to pay the difference. I don't want to get stuck with a B6 license that's worthless because the upgrade price is more than I am willing ot pay. It would be REALLY nice if staff could at least give a ballpark figure about what licensing fees are going to be. I've heard guesstimates ranging from $100-1000 and everwhere in between.

That would assume that I'm planning on updating to the next beta - which I'm not. However, I am planning on using my site for pre-registration until the RC comes out which is why I want it to look as much like the final product as possible - meaning no footer.
|
And where did you hear this? I have not seen a single thing from Boonex that states that such a thing would/will happen. In fact, overall Boonex has been incredibly good in allowing sites to upgrade/update and not charging additional monies for licenses in the process.
This sounds more like water cooler talk than actual fact and I'd be surprised if you could show me where a singel Boonex Admin has said this themselves.

hey there i was just following this thread, and was just wanting to let you know that you can get a license for $39.00. now for all intents and purposes of testing, i dont see where $39.00 could break the bank. that way you get the adverts removed for your testing purposes at least. that would give you 3 months to test out. sounds like a good idea to me
License Options:
Free - BoonEx logo and links must be displayed on your site.
$39 - 90 days link-free license for 1 domain.
$99 - 400 days (1year + 1 month) link-free license for 1 domain.
$299 - lifetime link-free license for 1 domain.
$998 - Prime: lifetime link-free license, plus re-brandable Mobile Apps, plus professional installations and more.

Pfffffft, there are no "beta" licenses. dolphin license structure changed some time back to accomodate the upcoming D7 release.
so if you purchase a 1 year license now, its good for a year. if license price structure changes in that year, when your time is up, you will pay more money. if you purchase the lifetime now, well it is what it says it is "lifetime".

Thats an interesting comment to make, ive not heard or seen any comments that state the people with D6 licences will have to pay the difference running a D7. Where did you see this?

Vagabodette, you're wasting wear and tear on your keyboard.
It's a simple equation: $299 = Permanent Ad Free license = No Boonex footers or banners anywhere... ever.
A permanent license is good for D6, D7, and all future versions of Dolphin. You will not have to pay for any upgrades, unles you decide that you want a prime license package. One thing is almost certain... The price is not going to get any better than it is now. My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |

I have just started to play with D7 B6.
Does a new beta or RC mean that I will also lose all my configuration changes? Or are these all stored in the DB?
I can't get the forum installed due to XML/XSLT problems with my PHP (shared hosting). Is there somewhere information on this? Haven't found it yet.
The forum will be the most important part of my application. Maybe I should relocate my hosting from The Netherlands to a certified Dolphin hosting party in the States. I feel bit scared about the support (due to the 6-8 hours time difference).
TIA!
