How do I hide all Private Albums from not being visible when other members are looking at photo albums
How do I hide all Private Albums from not being visible when other members are looking at photo albums |
Was there an answer for this? I can't seem to find it. Part of the reason, that big goofy square that says Private Album, well, looks awful AND when you set a thumbnail for sites, it stores it in a private album (which is silly, but I guess it has to be stored somewhere) so now this goofy looking square is there in view of other members and visitors. Just looks terrible that's all. Sorry... back to the task at hand - has this already been answered - if so - what is the answer or where is the answer please? Thnx |
An update on site thumbnail pics going into private albums... When I add a site as 'admin' the thumbnail is there almost instantaniously, yet when I load as a 'regular member' the grey spacer.gif sits there forever. As far as the pics of sites (thumbnails) I just renamed the album and set it as public - but it's still too bad that I have to do that. Any other experiences dealing with (and hopefully remmedying) this situation? Thanx |
This was reported as a bug a while back, but BoonEx chose to call it a "feature." BoonEx Certified Host: Zarconia.net - Fully Supported Shared and Dedicated for Dolphin |
I agree it IS a feature, but it took a bit of mucking about to get it to look how I want it to. Now that it's been a day or 2 since I started using the ShrinkTheWeb service (that Boonex uses to get the thumnails of sites) The thumbnail is loading pretty quickly when I add a new site - not a problem. Once an album was created to store the thumbnail pics in (was initially set as private by default) I changed the name of the album to something decent and set it to be viewed by friends (not public). Now the pics show up in the 'All Photos" list but not in the 'Public Photos' list. Looks good and does the job. Thanks for helping work this through. I'm happy with this feature. Of course, it will take a bit for other members to learn how to do it - but I like to think people are generally smart, kind and patient... even if it isn't true LOL. |
I reported this ugliness on the main photos page, and they fixed it. I would have thought they would have finished the job and taken this useless stuff off the main albums page also. My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |
Very true houston, they are ugly. I thought I'd hidden them enough to be ok since they're not on the main page of the site, but they are all over the Photos home page. Not in the Photo Albums section, but the whole top row is, as you say, big blue padlocks on the All Photos section. I look forward to a solution now that you sent a ticket in on this. I'll keep watching for something. Thanx |
In 7.0.1, they were all over the photos home page, and it looks like that's the only place they were removed from. They need to fix this ugliness all at once and not just in little bits. My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |
Chime in here any time Boonex. Tell us why this makes sense. Or, do you guys just think it's a good idea to show our 'Privates'? My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |

Why is a padlock icon necessary in the first place? Isn't the whole idea of a private album to maintain privacy and keep the fact that the photos exist a secret? Why would you want to notify people there are pictures they can't actually access anyway? Jesus, the question sounds almost as stupid as the idea.... http://towtalk.net ... Hosted by Zarconia.net! |
the question sounds almost as stupid as the idea.... lolll - I agree with you Bosun / Moderator -- My Products : http://www.boonex.com/market/posts/danielmarseille |
It's just plain stupid... especially considering the fact that the padlock represents an unknown photo from an unknown member that I'm not allowed to see. Can you imagine a site with 10,000 photos, and endless pages of huge disgusting blue padlocks? My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |

yes this must be fixed all photos which are uploaded to events, groups etc... are also standard in private album. this is also not user friendly because the most users understand for the word "private", that the album is for their own pictures and not that it is hidden, also they don´t understand that no one now can see their pictures and to find the settings of that album to make it public is very difficult. this private album should be standard "public" and if some one want´s to upload pictures "non public" he makes a new album and directly sees the setting, or just delete this privat album from standard ue30 Mods - http://www.boonex.com/market/posts/ue30 |
Though not an answer to this problem (still waiting on that), in the mean time I touched up "lock.png" to at least look better on my pages and seem like more of a "feature" to my members. It's still not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but at least in the interim it's not a painful eye-sore. Can't wait for a "real" answer on how to remove these though. That, of course, would be the preference. |
boonex - go you fix this problem Please - I'm a bit tired of having my site with D6 Bosun / Moderator -- My Products : http://www.boonex.com/market/posts/danielmarseille |
Guess I was silly to think this would be resolved. (sigh) Time to roll up my sleeves and be ready to get dirty.... Time to jump in there. Yup... time to start mucking with code. Wish me luck. |
person to solve this problem |
I found something on this forum - I think it was from Zarcon but I'm not sure (sorry, if it's crediting the wrong person I appologise)- I liked the way it looked so I extended it further... Here's what I did - and it worked in files: comment them out: change... <div class="sys_file_search_unit __extra_css_class__"> to... <!--

Are you running 7.0 or 7.0.1? |
I'm running D7 and I commented out as mckaig suggested.
It works, BUT ... and what's next is a major security problem :
First of all : when I go to 'photos home' I can see the thumbnail picture of other members in the 'all photos' area. When I click on it I get 'access forbidden'. So far so good.
But when I click on 'my albums' on the top right I'm being directed to the 'my albums' page of the former member that used the site on the same computer.
OK, this might be exceptionnel that more people use the same computer, but in this case I'm thinking of public computers (office, internetcafes etc.)
When I clear history and cookies the problem is solved, but is everybody doing this when he leaves a public computer ???
Maybe it's not because of mckaig's mod, but if it is ... be careful with that.
I'll put my original files back and if the problem is still there, I'll report this as a bug.
|
I put my original files back and the problem is solved.
I'm sorry to tell you this mckaig, but the mod you were provided by causes a security problem.
|
OK, there IS a security problem. When I login as a member I'm being directed to my 'account control' page. When I click on 'photos' in the quick links, I'm still being directed to the photos home page of the member that used the computer before me.
I reported this as a bug. |
romeonyc77... I am using 7.0 annabel... I have 4 people who use the computer I'm generally working on (mind you it's me 'most of the time', but when I logged on immediately after one of the others was logged in (did there do then logged out) I didn't find the problems you did. When I clicked on 'my albums', I was taken to my albums. Not to the other person's. I'm wondering if it's possibly because I have no caching set up in my admin. That is... under admin panel...Settings...Advanced Settings...Template, I have nothing checked off. Enable Users to Change Templates (no), Enable cache for HTML files (no), Enable cache for images (no), Max image size to be cached(in kb) (I have 5, but it's really moot if I'm not caching), Enable cache for CSS files (no), Enable cache for JS files (no)... that's all of them - no boxes checked. Maybe I lucked out and that's the answer. I don't know...but I'm not seeing the problem you discussed. You think? Maybe. I'm just looking for answers too. :) |
Worked great for me too....You are genius mckaig! |
Awesome! this worked for me... thanks mckaig! |
7.0.9 and still got those ugly private photo albums visible :-( Diddy is not greedy and has time. Dolphin is cool and its not just mine :-) |
