Remove Sounds, Files

Hello,

Is it possible to completely remove "Files" and "Sounds" from Dolphin?

Simply because it's no use for my type of community it's confusing for our end user.

Thank you :)

You can uninstall modules from Administration > Tools > Modules.

If a module has a dependency and cannot be removed without affecting other modules, you can try and hide its presence by removing it from the navigation menu, page builders, etc. You may also have to edit files to remove upload fields for modules that may use them, like groups. You should search the forums for more information on this.

Superb - This is much appreciated - I cannot delete them because they are required in 6 other modules (and I really don't use files/sounds within them). Thank you for the information.

yes it's very hard job. Hire somebody in a jobs section for complete this part

PS: If possible do not write me personally, please try to ask on the forum first

I am confused with what SashaE is saying?

If you just hide them - is that ok? Or do you need to hire someone to hide them?

Or deleting them requires someone with experience and knowledge.

Please advise; as I wish to remove the following; video, chat, photos, files, sounds etc. All I did was to remove the blocks from the navigation area; is this ok?

I am planing to use only the following modules; Groups, Events, Articles, 2 other custom modules and perhaps photo and perhaps chat.

My site is not ready for Beta yet. I am working on it.

Even within Profile I wish to limit what a member can do from his profile Page - How does this affect the rest of the setup. In profile I wish to limit members accessibility as well to limited features.

Please advise. Thank You.

Simply remove the dependencies from the install.php or whatever it is called

no need to hire someone to do the job

also if other modules offers a link to post a sound .. just remove it from the template.

easy as dell

if u need detailed instructions, let me know ... free of charge.

p.s.

i am a bit tired of reading sooo often, post it in the jobs section .. especially when it is smth quite simple.

especially bcs already said .. just remove the links from the template .. hide those links.

best way to do it is to remove the links from the template.

Great thanks, could you please provide some instructions, so i do not mess up please. Most appreciated.

Now I am totally confused. All I thought I had to do was go into Admin>Menu Builder and remove the blocks I did not wish my members to see - that is it.

Is it not that simple?

Quote · 4 Apr 2011

u need to be precise in what you want.

If u need groups but no sounds .. remove the dependency from groups config .php file as described in the previous link.

ummm.... so it is not as simple as moving the blocks out of sight from the Menu Builder. Have to alter code for each dependency within each module.

Ok so to give you an idea, I wish to remove Video, Files, Forum, Blog entirely from my site and I wish to leave Photos in Profile only.

Briefly - what is it that I have to do to achieve this? Obviously, by the sounds of it, I cannot just remove these blocks from the Menu Builder. I need to do more then that.

Thanks so much in advance.

You can remove all modules and only leave photos installed.

It has no dependencies.

tell me what modules you want to keep, bcs you may want to keep more than photos.

Quote · 4 Apr 2011

Perhaps you should start with a clean install of boonex.

remove all modules from the start in your admin panel .. and start building from scratch.

Ok, I can do that. No problem. What is procedure?

I will have a couple of custom modules ready in 3 weeks that are part of the site.

Go to your admin panel, and simply un-install every module you have installed.

and start with (re) installing photo's ..

Ok I did. got the following failed; Avatar, Files, Orca Forum, Payment, Photos, Sounds, Videos.

Ok, I re-ran the un-install and now we have them all done.

Quote · 4 Apr 2011

so .. no modules installed .. correct?

if so, install photo's

and voila .. you have your site only with photos

Thank you for your answer so far....

Here's the dependencies in my case

well do what it says;

uninstall the modules that are dependent first ........ !!

or .. do you want to keep those modules installed?

be more precise as i said earlier.

Yes, no modules, all I see on the site is People, Mail, Search.

So what if I only want Photos in Profile only and not show on the main Tab (the ones that show across the top)?

Quote · 4 Apr 2011

install photo's and then

go to admin panel

builders - > navigation menu

and remove photo's from there..

Quote · 4 Apr 2011

Ok, so I install a module, then if I do not want it to show on the Main Tabs, I remove All the blocks in the Admin>Menu Builder for that module.

What if i want to remove the Photo Block from the Profile only and leave the one on the Main Tab?  Do I just remove the "Photos" block from the Profile (Admin>Menu Builder)? That is it?

I really appreciate your time and effort. Please continue the lesson.

if you want to remove the photo block from the profile page you do the following

admin panel ->builders - >  page block->  select profile from drop down menu

and remove photo's from the left block

voila.

Sorry, I did not mean Photo Block. Here is what I mean; I installed Photo, it shows as the main Tab (on site) AND also in the Profile Tab. If I want to remove it from the Profile Tab here is what I do; Admin>Builders>Navigation Menu>Remove the Photo "box" from under the My Profile?

Correct?

Quote · 4 Apr 2011

if you select profile from the top menu bar, the top menu bar being the bar that is absolutely on top of your page. if  you select profile from there, you will go to your own profile page, correct?

if you want to remove the photo block from there you will have to do as i previously typed

Quote · 4 Apr 2011

in page blocks you can add or remove blocks from certain pages.

if you want to remove the photo's block from profiles, you have to remove that from the profile page.

play with it, no harm can be done. and if you fail, you just start all over. we all started out the same way.

i must have re-installed boonex 20 times or smth before i felt comfortable with it

Quote · 4 Apr 2011

Something I do not understand, perhaps I am not explaining this well. Right at the top of the site is a thin Status Bar, which has Profile. Then below are the Tabs which also has the Profile Option (in both cases you have the image of Half Person (Profile), they both show Photos right now. Along with that i have a Tab (menu Selection) for Photo as well.

So if I wish to remove the "Photos" option from the Profile - I go to Admin>Builders>Navigation Menu>Here I drag the "Photo" box (that appears below the Profile Column) and remove it from Active Items.

What you are saying is how to remove the display Block on the profile page.

try it :-)

if it does not produce what you want, just put it back in its place :-)

Great Thanks. I understand - I think. The whole mess started because of "dependency" comment. I think it was misuse of terminology.

Tell me what is the difference between Photo in Profile and Photo that shows up on it's own Menu Tab on the site? What is the difference?

Almost all of these modules are the same, they show up on their own Tab AND they show on the Profile.

Your help was much appreciated.

Quote · 4 Apr 2011

I think it was misuse of terminology.

...

If you want to install the module GROUPS .. you will notice that you cannot install this module before you installed several others before, such as sounds.

In other words, the module GROUPS has a dependency on the module SOUNDS.

This problem can be overcome, but to do this .. will be at your own risc. and anyway, this is not the issue now for you.

---

I am not sure if i get your question, "Tell me what is the difference between Photo in Profile and Photo that shows up on it's own Menu Tab on the site? What is the difference?"

Click on the link on the profile page .. and check if it is the same as the menu tab will bring you. If they are both the same, than there is no difference :-)

Which i think is the answer.

Sorry, a quick question.

The Thin Status Bar which is right at the very top of the screen (well you can change the position if you like), there is Profile option there, how do I remove "Photo" from there.

I managed to remove it from the other Profile place (right besides the Home button)., but it still shows on the Status Bar Profile Tab.

That is a very bad idea and not recommended (as said at the very top of the post). If you want to remove modules with dependencies, you should just hide their presence, which can be done (and is far easier).

I understand the dependency thing. But from my previous question; how and where do i remove the "Photo" option from displaying in the Profile button which is on the Thin Status Bar on the top edge of the page?

I cannot find anywhere in the admin section to remove this option.
