SERVER set up question ....helpppp meeee! please!

FYI ... I do understand the complexities of it all however I am not versed nor schooled.

Hello, I hope someone can assist me!

Long story short...TMD basically blew up my site.....so I  transferred to ARVIXE an they

said this:

The server meets all these requirements other than PHP xslt extension. I see PHP was last built with some errors. We could go ahead and recompile it but please let us know if there are any custom php/Apache modules that you want configured

Originally I had someone assisting me in this....and I can't get a hold of him!!!!

I do believe there is ...but how do I know??

PHP requires XSLT support, so you should go ahead with them recompiling it. I'm wondering why an Arvixe server doesn't have this already.

There shouldn't be any other modules or extensions required as long as the minimum requirements are already met (which includes the required XSLT extension for PHP).

And that's my signature.

Hey,  I setup my transfer yesterday at about 2pm ...does it usually take a while?

I did already have a site there with them...guess that doesn't make a difference....

but...how long does it usually take?

That's a question you should be asking your hosting provider. It probably should have been done by now, but I don't know the details.

Well ...I have been...

I have 2 sites there...and transferred one elsewhere. Then I wanted to transfer. Dolphin one to them.

Yesterday, in their support tickets, it seemed like they thought I already had my site there...and I did..

but not the one I was transferring....soo....I called ...cleared up the situation...

Got support tickets today, asking questions like the one I submitted here....well after I responded...

they responded with a reply that made me think they "think " my site is with them!!!

I just called now...and ya....they didn't even transfer it ....

This sounds like something I should be answering, Nathon has enough on his plate with all the people demanding he create trac tickets, lol. Jewelbox, he's exactly right.... as long as it's compiled with XSLT you should be good to go. Is it a VPS or a dedicated server? Their shared plans should have everything ready to go by default.

It is VPS, should it be dedicated?

Let me ask  you ...TMD  had my site, they did not set up server properly apparenty..not sure...but after 3 days.... Error 500 & 404 came up.  They said they were adjusting VPS & optimizing not to worry. In the mean time 'warnings' & 'fails' were also appearing under HOST TOOLS, they say no worries.

Well. needless to say.....I  Had only 10 of the 46 modules in the admin "MODULES"  however in the "modules" folder >tools , they were all installed.

The inactive blocks in the MENU BUILDER>Navigation   were reproducing at an alarming rate.

Menus were not cohesive anymore, all modifications were goneCry

TMD said:  we regret to inform you that all modifications made prior could not be restored, they

were reloading it "ANEW"

ARVIXE is transferring it now....we backed up our work ...so doesn't that mean it will still be there?

All the mods we installed are gone, does that mean everything we did with them are gone too even

if we backed it up?

I apologize...I am really confused and sad

If you have a backup of both the files and database, a restore should be possible.

Don't be confused and sad, we're going to get you fixed up. Are the backups from BEFORE everything went awry at TMD? If they are from before then yes everything will be fine.

About the VPS/Dedicated.. a VPS will be fine, you'll be one step up from what most people start out with. That explains why they are having to rebuild everything with the Dolphin requirements though.

nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo...they were after TMD..omg

seriously?  But..how?  why?? What if ...I had mods installed and skinned..does that mean all that

work is gone?

I have the Windows VPS class.... great ok..can you explain to me if you get a chance the way

that works? So I am sharing a server still??

ARVIXE is still transferring over the site.  They told me to scan the files too for Trojans cuz when

I went back to my TMD address they tried to attack my comp, wtf is going on....uggg

Quote · 2 Oct 2011

In theory when you restore a backup the site should be exactly as it was when everything was backed up. So if the backup is from AFTER all your modules were missing and everything was haywire, then it might be the same way when it's restored.

About the VPS, yes you'll be sharing it but a VPS but is much better than a shared hosting account. The server is setup so you have your own set allocated ram and disk space. Also you can install and configure just about anything you want.

About the malware, you need to run malwarebytes on your home computer and make sure you don't have a virus. That javascript thing has been hitting a lot of people here and they normally get your ftp password through a virus on your home computer. Then after the site gets moved you will have to go through the files and look for a line at the bottom of each file that starts "<script>". We'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Thank you!

ARVIXE just emailed me saying:

Ok, once the compile completes, if you still face issues, please do let us know.

I feel as though I am going crazy...are they working on it while its with TMD is that what

is happening?  All I want to do is build my site back...I was suppose to launch the day this

happened....I have spent so much time marketing.....I have almost 3K  waiting....

Quote · 2 Oct 2011

When they say "compile" they are talking about them re-compiling Apache/PHP on your Arvixe server with the XSLT module Dolphin needs. They are probably waiting on that to complete to transfer the site.

Sorry all this happened to you. When you say 3k waiting do you mean people waiting to join? If so then congratulations, it took me a few years to break 1k, lol.

ohhhK gotcha...that makes soo much sense.  I am totally learning as I go from that perspective of it

I need a crash course  in the cpanel..I don't even understand where my files are...or kept..and with this site .....I can't just launch and walk away from it.... I mean there are things I need to look for an do right?

. Isn't there a program they have on ARVIXE that  you can download to make the cpanel easier to figure out besides the knowledge base they have? I have the most difficult time locating folders

This site in particular I started on back in March. Not with Dolphin software....  I hired someone to build and  they flaked out after the first 2mths. Found out he was outsourcing to India. and that explained why any changes I made were not available for at least  24-8 hrs later..

Hired another guy out of the UK who came highly recommended and I liked his style. He got what I wanted for the template. He started at end of May said would comeplete no later then end of July. He was doing a custom template& intergration for Social Engine...well he started off strong, had the mock up approved within the first week....its just been dragging ever since....so I decided to go with Dolphin on my own..and had a guy help me with install, bugs etc...we were jammin and it looked soooooo freakin good too....

and during all of this...I have been constantly marketing......and constantly delaying ....sucks.....wow I just wrote a journal entry...

About Cpanel, here is the official users guide:

http://docs.cpanel.net/twiki/bin/view/AllDocumentation/CpanelDocs/WebHome

It'll be confusing at first but just keep exploring and you'll catch on quick. They have a good forum there too.

You'll want to get a good FTP program (I use Smartftp) and a good SSH client (I use Putty) to access the actual files on the server. You can use the file manager in Cpanel but it's cumbersome at times.

About having things to look for and do... YES, you might as well consider your new site a full time job, or maybe a new baby. The spammers and hackers are going to make you pull your hair out as soon as your site hits Google.  They are attracted to Dolphin like a moth to flame.

It's be stressful at times but you sound like you're already way ahead with the marketing so you'll do fine.

TROJAN horse again, redirect infection with my URL on it..keeps popping up that

AVAST blocked it. I ran the scan already and had 24 of them. How can I make the AVAST

warning  stop?

What can I do to protect against the HackSpam any security or program?

Thanks for the link,  About the file manager programs....can I get those you mentioned from

ARVIXE?

\

So those programs will make it easier to figure out what I am looking for?.

How about installing them?  I have no clue how I am going to scan the files for viruses either.

Is there a way to tell right now if they have done anything??? I see the DNS are still TMD.

I looked at both cpanels and didnt want mess too much with it...but it looks like I am on both.

Is there anything in the guide that can show me how to find out where the heck my site is..and if they started transferring yet???

Still heard nothing from ARVIXE, I wish I could just do it myself
