Serious question - what does RMS give me?

Since I ventured on this Dolphing journey over a year ago, I've seen RMS mentioned everywhere and it being all the rave. Nowhere do I see it mentioned why i would want or need it for my site though.

So my question is simple, why should I (or the average dolphin admin) care about RMS and getting it setup? What do I have to gain (other than a headache according to some posts)?

The media server gives you the following features:

  • audio/video communication for the messenger module
  • audio/video communication for the chat module
  • support for video comments in the comments section of modules
  • use of the photo shooter feature in the photos module
  • and maybe some other things I'm forgetting

If you don't need these added multimedia features, then the media server isn't for you, and you shouldn't waste your time with it.

Thanks Magnus - you have helped confirm that I have no practical use or reason to implement an RMS server for my site. This also answers why I haven't had any need to inquire about it :)

Below is the legacy version of the Boonex site, maintained for Dolphin.Pro 7.x support.
