Site launched and some info:

[Magnussoft: learn2screenshot.]

We just launched a boonex site for a client.  It is averaging 1 new join per 2 to 4 minutes.  So far it is handling it just fine.

System information

Server load 0.31 (18 CPUs)
Memory Used 12.51% (517636 of 4139244)
Swap Used 0.01% (112 of 2096440)

The script is doing just fine which was my biggest worry.

Launched at 10am CST.  Currently 16 online.

I will keep anyone interested posted since I'm getting a lot of my own questions answered right now.

Yeah, I know...panic...Didn't think the copy and paste would create that type of link to the WHM.

I have a feeling I will be locked out soon.  I can tell already.

Thanks.

You copied over the images, which caused the popup box. I removed it because fifty people at once thought it was urgent enough to message me during my lunch break.

So what is the url?  It is always interesting to see sites with a strong launch like this;   How did you do it?   Is your growth continuing?

Quote · 21 Apr 2011

It is a site we put together for a client.  They are using it for their own members which creates a more prime opportunity to gain membership in the boonex product.  So its nothing that was done as far as with the boonex site itself.

However, what made this particular one different then others we've setup was the number of members that have been contacted to join.

Up until about two hours ago it was maintaining 1 new join per 4 minutes.  The average amount of simultaneous online members was 16 starting at 10am till around 2pm CST.

The boonex script ran extremely well and never slowed.  The server loads went as high as 1.2 for about five minutes.  We have dual processors to split the load so 2.0 would be bad for this site.  I was very pleased with the performance of the product (new join handling) as the new joins were adding content to their profiles.

For the last two hours it has seen 1 new join per 10 minutes.  We expect the traffic to double Monday.  We are marketing this to a total of 200,000+ people overall throughout the year that meet the same demographic.  We are treating this as a way of seeing what the boundaries are with the boonex product.  I certainly don't think we will get more than 2 to 3 percent of that to join over the year but who knows.  It's an experiment that this particular client is eager to help us with.

I thought you guys would like to know about some of the results.

So why can't we know the url?  Obviously if you are getting a new member every four minutes, you are doing something right.   If that many people know about it, they can't be any harm in us knowing about it as well, is there?

Would you want to post a clients site on this forum?

Besides, it has nothing to do with the site.  It has everything to do with how to position a boonex site in a market.  You can have a basic, somewhat plain boonex site (which is what we do) with ZERO 3rd party mods, stripped down options and put it in front of a good market and you can gain membership.

People don't want a pimped out site which is what a lot of boonex members try to do.  They want the function.  They want simplicity.  If they can figure out how to use it within the first 5 minutes then you have a winner.

The key is to analyze your boonex site from top to bottom.  Look at a single feature.  If there is more than one way to access that feature then it's too complicated.  If there is more than one way to do one thing then it is too complicated.

We have done market research on businesses that have joined some of our boonex sites.  Here is what we found:

1.  Simplicity is number one reason they like our sites.

2. Every module menu has three options.  Blog Home, Search, Blog Tutorial (custom).  Simple.

3. Re-work the albums.  Don't have create albums and create videos on the same page.  Make them go through Albums first to add videos.

4.  Placing redirects in the Language Files to force a flow through your site.  You tell them where to go next.  They join > membership > then avatar > then profile.  They edit their profile > dashboard, etc.

5. Verbiage - if you want a business site you need to use business terms that match the market you are trying to attract (research the market)

6.  Files and Sounds are not needed in business sites.  Remove all mention of those modules.  Images / Videos are only needed on the Profiles menu and remove the Images Home and Videos Home path.  They don't want to see everyone's images and videos in one big pile.

7.  Chat rooms, Whiteboard is not wanted.  Removed.

8.  Privacy - two privacy options only.  Public and Network Contacts (Friends).

9.  They don't want loud and colorful graphics.  They prefer their content to be the predominant factor not the boonex template.

The key is to take a look at a market.  What do they need when it comes to their communication.  Solve that and they join.

Once they join then take a look at who they buy from.  Every company buys from another.  You get a network of like companies then you can sell advertising to other companies that look at the boonex site members as customers.  Of course, this takes a small sales force.

Data - you need good data.  You can't approach a business site without good data.  If you build it - THEY WONT COME.  You have to find them.

This is why the site and the url is not important.  Hope that helps.

Ha!  Just saw that...yes.  Screenshots are better.

Quote · 21 Apr 2011

Why not?  It is already public on the Internet, and if you are really getting a new member every two minutes - even for a short while, you are doing better then anyone I have seen here before.   Nothing about you - I am sure what you are saying is true, but I have been here several years now and almost every single time someone has written boasting about fantastic growth they never publish the url.  I really don't see what the big deal is.   Why don't you just tell us?

Quote · 21 Apr 2011

Wow, you are totally missing the point.

It's not about the boonex site.  We've put up vendor directories, jobs boards and more for customers that work and draw real revenue.  Its not because of the product we install.  Its because of the strategy behind how the product is positioned.  We own data.  We have a sales team.  We do market analysis.  We are looking at boonex as being a valuable product in our business.  Not trying to be the next facebook.

Putting a social network out there and hoping that people will join will drive you nuts.  500 million people joined facebook for no reason.  Thats why they corner the market on drones.  If you want to create a successful social network then you need to give people a reason to join and a reason to advertise.  Solve those two things and you can gain real traffic.  That is what we are working on right now.  We are at the beginning.  We'll keep you updated.

Anyway, enough of this.  This was our real first true test of the boonex product in a situation where real valid memberships were being created.  It is the first time to have a boonex site go live for a customer rather than just for testing and feedback purposes.

What this means to anyone who is worried about the real potential of the boonex product is that I'm convinced that this product can handle quite a bit of real traffic just as long as the server package is setup to handle it.  I'm very happy with today's results.

Streamlining boonex is the key.  Third party modules and other fluff don't really matter when it comes to memberships.

68 members joined between 10am and 5pm.  Four have joined between 5 and 7.  Not real spectacular in the big picture but it was worthy of study.  It's not because we posted a site on the web and we got members.  By asking for the URL you are focusing on the site.  That's why so many sites fail.  It's all about the strategy behind how you position a boonex site, an esyndicate site, a wordpress site, a drupal site, etc.

1 new join every four minutes is nothing.  That's roughly 140,000 for the year if the pace held true 24/7/365.  Boonex passed a test and I'm posting the results of the test.  I suppose that aggravates some.

Oh well.

But if you can tell me how to get some of the email variables to work I would appreciate it.

Particularly the New Wall Event email.  It doesn't post the URL.  Just the text HERE.

I don't see why you say I am "missing the point"  - you bragged about how great your site is doing, and I just asked if we could see it - that's all.   Why would letting people here see your successful launch be so horrible?  - obviously lots of other people have seen it.     No one here said anything about "being the next Facebook"  - but you have said how your strategy is so superior that the site doesn't matter so how would it hurt anything to let us see it like everyone else?   I would like to see the "vendor directories, jobs boards" that you say are drawing "real revenue" for this new site.  Is the site for Kentucky Fried Chicken?

Quote · 22 Apr 2011

You got me.  It's Kentucky Fried Chicken.

If you really think that 72 joins in an entire day is bragging then I'm embarrased for you.

We don't put sites up for hobby.  So NO you are not going to get a list of the sites we manage.  We sell online advertising in many different sites.  Most we put up.  Others we manage the ad sales for.  We have worked and sold into over 300 sites.

Up until today I've been wondering just how well Boonex will handle under situations like today.  I don't care if your feelings are hurt because I wont give you the URL.  Today's results were not fantastic.  They were real.  But not fantastic.

The strategy we use is not "superior" to anyone elses.  Its just a strategy.  Companies have that, you know.  I have provided you information that you were wanting in your "business discussion" site or whatever.

Case in point:

HoustonLively was talking about a market he understands.  He is right on track with creating a successful site if he taps into that segment.  I would call several engineers and ask them what they would like to see in a (don't use social network) site designed to connect engineers.  Then build the site they want.  Find a method of marketing that site to engineers.  They will join because it was designed for them --- by them.  This would then enable Houston to call companies that would sell to engineers and sell ads.

Just a strategy that works.  Not one time did I brag how great the site was.  I simply posted results for anyone interested in them.  I would have loved to see results on server load and new join handling a year ago.

Andrew Boone has also mentioned this in recent blogs.  Boonex is for target audiences, but a thought process has to be behind it.  He mentioned the need for quality content over loud design.  Apparently my "Superior Strategy" isn't just mine.

My special "Kentucky Fried Chicken" recipe isn't really a secret!

I'll give you the last word...

now that you've made me hungry.

Quote · 22 Apr 2011

You know dude - whatever.  I have seen quite a bit here, but I don't think I have ever seen someone so idiotically twist someone's words.  I give up.  The strategy of Pravo Network is brilliant!   Who needs to see anything - we will all just take your word for it that you have a better strategy than everyone else.

Quote · 22 Apr 2011

Just simply posted results Cal.  Maybe you should try my Chicken Fried Superior Strategy (CFSS) and you wouldn't have to see other people's sites.  You could measure the traffic statistics yourself.

Ok, so I lied about the last word...

Now it's yours...
