Social and Facebook Connect. Do you really see an added value?

Hi guys,

I'm tempted to purchase the Social Connect Mod that allows people to sign-up through FB, Twitter and etc.

The only problem is when you try to sign up with FB, you will be asked to grant permission to the app to access all your information.

Don't you think people are put off by it?  Is there anyone with experience in seeing an increased number of members after installing such mod?

I think your response is a typical one from someone who does not use social media. You may have no understanding of the incredible size of people who use nothing more.

Personally, I wont even join a site unless it has quick connect, and I would guess that the younger generation that is growing up and slowly becoming YOUR users, will all be the same.

I would always suggest thorough integration with social media's. And btw, all connections at all sites will require permissions like you mentioned. Any average social media user will be used to that.

This sentance says nothing, and its possibly spellt wrong.

Well, first of all, mine is a question and not a response.

Second of all, your point of view is from a Social-Geek prespective.  You should think who your target user is.  It might not be a Social Media addicted or a young generation fellow, therefore not keen on quick connect for a privacy matter.

Said that, I'm going to install a quick connect too on my community Laughing

I did not mean to sound argumentative.

I agree that some sites will never need such thing because of the audience. I have made sites where the typical user could not even manage to navigate beyond the front page. There are still some pretty unlearned users out there.

But age has nothing to do with who will use your social connects. I have many social accounts with the average user being over 30, and from a huge variation of cultures.

I simply give this info because I like to encourage the social front to expand. I hope to see it used by everything, and really, it almost is.

Also, dont forget about the inbound links that are possible from total integration. Id say a good 30% of traffic is from social media on most of my sites.

This sentance says nothing, and its possibly spellt wrong.
