Almost have our network to how we want it to look. However there are some things I haven't been able to figure out.
1) I set it up so that new members would have to validate their registration by changing setting under moderation settings and when I do a test signup, it tells me "join complete, mail has been successfully sent" but nothing comes. Anyone know why?
2) How do I remove some of the site stats that appear on the home page that I'm not going to be using (ie. polls).
3) Is there a way to upload videos ourselves through the admin panel while not giving people the ability to do it themselves? Want to keep more control on what videos are displayed on the site plus control how many.
4) How do we change all the classified sections? No need for pets for sale and such with the type of site we're going to have.
5) When I click on member login in the top right hand side of the homepage, the screen fades a bit but get no login fields to be able to login into. Is something missing there or if I need to, how do I remove the link as I have the login box on the home page further down.
Thanks in advance.

Just bumping this up in the hopes of getting some responses. Thanks |
Let's start with #2. It is the easiest. Mr. Powless has already written an excellent tutorial for this so why reinvent the wheel. Sometimes power is not in having the knowledge but knowing where the most answers lie.

Hope that helps

Thanks for the link. Been trying to find tutorials here and there.
Have another issue where I create a test blog as a member but it doesn't show under blogs. It will show under top blogs but when I click on the blog link it shows as nothing found.

#3....I believe you can just download through the admin panel. But let me share with you what I would suggest and why. I would create one membership level with the ability to upload videos. I would put myself in that membership level and turn off upload videos in the rest of the member levels. Now why? Should you take on others that you would allow to upload videos it is just simply a membership levle change to allwo them to do this, and simplicity sake of adding videos right from the site.
Hope this helps...really just my opinion there are more ways to skin this cat.

Great idea about creating a new membership level with that ability. Thanks
I didn't see an option to do it through the admin panel. Under content and video it didn't have any options. Just said there are no files.

#4) Have you been into the classifieds through the admin. If not do so. It really should be self explanatory from there if not answer back for more guidance.
I would need to see what you are talking about on #1, and #5, and the last question you snuck in.
Also let me make one more suggestion....one properly titled forum post for each question may have gotten faster results, and would be of more help for others looking for answers to the same questions down the road.
Thanks,

Thanks. Thought having all questions in one post wouldn't be more helpful than adding more posts to the forum but I agree with your point about it helping others.
We did figure out the classified section this morning and was pretty much self explanatory as you said.
I sent you a PM with the site. Didn't want to post it until it's all done.

#1. what is your smtp server, what platform are you running on, and what do your maillogs say? |
Sorry, but where would I check for SMTP server? Site is on Linux CentOS. |
This is the email I get regarding the join verification issue I'm having:

Is it because it's gmail? I didn't want to get all the emails from the cron jobs so I setup a gmail account for this site. I tried changing the header.inc.php file to another email address but that didn't work either.

1.have you gone and enabled php_smtp ?
2.have you gone down into php.ini and put your credentials there ?
|
I'm not sure I'm following is this correctly. Is your site hosted on Hostgator, and are you using a gmail.com email address as the sender in header.inc.php ? My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |
i to had the same problem with the email returning to me. It's because i was trying to use a .yahoo email account and i guess most hosts do not allow that. i would great an email account with your domain name like admin@yourdomainname.com. see if that helps. https://dolphin-techs.com - Skype: Dolphin Techs |

Basically, that's was I was getting around to asking. Sometimes, problems like this are caused by the 'from' email address being from a different domain than the one from which the email was sent. This is a very common spam filter used by aol, Yahoo, and others, because that's how a lot of spam is formatted and sent. If the email addresses in inc/header.inc.php belong to a different domain than your Dolphin installation, this may be the problem.

I tried changing the email address in the header.inc.php file to my domain email but that didn't seem to help. I am using hostgator and do have a gmail address to filter everything into.
I got a little closer. I was able to get the validation email sent to me by enabling email authentication on hostgator for the domain. I also added gmail.com to be allowed. There was some spf settings on hostgator for that. Don't know if that helped or not.
So I got the validation email but when I go to validate the registration, I get the message that the email has been confirmed but below it says that "Specified profile not found in the database. It must have been removed earlier."
When I check users in my admin panel it's still sitting there as not verified.
This is one of the last things we need to sought out and a feature we need to control how sighups are done.
Thanks again for further help.

do you have cron jobs set up with your gmail account ? try to change that to something from your domain. also in the periodic folder there is a periodic file. edit the mail address in there as well to the same email for the cron jobs from your domain. see if that helps at all. https://dolphin-techs.com - Skype: Dolphin Techs |
also what i do is in the cpanel i set up an email forward to my yahoo mail from admin@mydomain.com. sometime i get it in my spam folder some times i get it in my inbox. https://dolphin-techs.com - Skype: Dolphin Techs |
Wanted to thank everyone who has helped with suggestions. Finally got the sign up part to work as we want it to. It was due to having a gmail account instead of one like: something @ mydomain.com. Once I changed everything to the domain email, it worked and now I just forward the mail to the gmail account. |
