Spam Control

Hi-

I have enabled DNSBlock lists *.countries.nerd.dk it seems that not all of the ipaddresses are getting through.

I have enabled (and paid for) akismet and people can still post url stuff on their profiles.

I have enabled IP Blacklist to try to fill in the blanks that it seems *.countries.nerd.dk is missing and even those ip addresses get through somehow... example: ip address 22.12.125.15 gets through and I have blocked 22.0.0.0 - 22.255.255.255

I would appreciate any help on this as now I am spending almost an hour a day cleaning up...

Did you take a look at this posting on the forum;

On my site I have used Captcha and so far so good. I have a splash page with 4 sign up questions, the next step is join screen2 which gives has them accept Terms and also enter the Captcha. So far it has worked wonders.

IP blocking by IP range was fixed in the latest 7.0.8 version, in previous versions this functions was not working.

Also make sure that "IP List Type" setting is not 0, it should be "1" - if you want to block some IPs and allow all others, or set it to "2" - if you want to allow some ips and block all others.

Has anybody enabled

  sbl.spamhaus.org.

I don't see a good way to configure. The other methods work so so... I really need a bullet proof way to block China and Korea... I think the rest, for the moment, i can live with :)

In ADMIN PANEL tools Ip blacklist you can ban unwanted ranges of IP addresses. It also shows the user Ip address that you can ban directly.

In conjunction with IP Blacklist in the admin panel, I found a boonex user deano92964 that also makes some really cool stuff that tracks IP address of users. Spam is not only your problem it appears everyone is being infected with it.

Also when you have ip addresses appear check with domaintools.com to locate origin country. this will help block source by knowing the origin country. type the IP address into domaintools.com to find the source country.

Don't think your the only one concerned about spam control. Best wishes.

IDeanos tools rock.... However, I have to go in and block ip address range after ip address range... I really was hoping the country block would work better...

 Be very careful! I had mine reset the first IP range to 0.0.0.0 and it totally locked me out of my site. had to go into the database to regain entry.

I don;t understand why the post -spam spam spam idea didn't do the trick for you. I have 4 sites and I brought the spammers to their knees using it.
