Special Blocks on Homepage

Ive got kind of a newbie question for you guys.....

so ive set the home page as the default page once users log in but id like to add a few more features to it... like allow them to view their friends, etc.... ive been able to do most of what i want to through html blocks and putting in the code... but i feel like adding a new special block would take some of the work out of it...

any ideas?

thanks...

What are you thinking the special block would do.  Something like the PHP block that James Tadeo showed us?  If you don't mind putting PHP in your database and executing it from there, that might be what you're looking for.

We decided to use AJAX in our blocks to execute code in a block.  More a matter of personal choice from what I've seen.

Perhaps a more simplified version of my question would be, how do i get the 'my friends' module to show up on the homepage? i cant seem to have a block thats available on say the Account page to also be available on the homepage...
