Suggested Hosts?

Can someone point me in the right direction of where to give cudo's to DosDog as a hosting provider.  I've searched but can't find the topic suggested hosts.  I mean really DosDog is amazing and his team spend countless HOURS getting me online and ready to go when I passed out at 6am he and his team kept working to get everything working which you all know is a task in itself.  It is people like DosDog that bring back the meaning to standing behind the work they offer.  Well enough here PLZ just point me to the proper place but I also wanted everyone here to know the effort this guy made for me last night knowing the deadlines I was under..........Amazing and nothing short of an effort that proves this man loves what he does and takes pride in the work he does..........THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU..............

I use Arvixe and they are pretty awesome too. They support has never let me down and they are pretty cheap. Just my two cents.

The name Arvixe doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same thread as the Dawg.

The entire point being GoMomma was giving static about the bandwidth my site was using "imagine that sir" isn't that why I got the unlimited package?  Hmmm you MF*******   Don't offer me an upgrade to a new server option just give me hell about my site great business idea.

Anyway this opened the doors to panic and bftroop understand the amazing you are a number feeling when you need a person LIKE DosDog who stepped up and worked around the clock to help get me transfered over in a moment of panic.  There is no other more important issue for new people to understand when dealing with this BEAST called DOLPHIN "Insert picture of a Dolphin with a BEAST FACE HERE"  My site flies around from place to place now no longer drags BC of the shared hosting with GoChild.com

Again finding the right host should be the very first thing you are allowed to do in order to get this code........IMHO   All it can do is save you time and frustration later...........HERE ME ROAR can I get an amen???Cool

It reaffirms in my mind that some people really take pride in what they do.....

These forums would be so boring without your stimuli Houston. A good laugh is needed after 18 hours behind a few monitors.

Hey, if someone gives me 7 bucks a month, ill tell you that you are using to much bandwith and give you support in broken, hard to comprehend english, and ultimately, give you nothing....dont support these huge corporate bastards...go with the Dawg.

This sentance says nothing, and its possibly spellt wrong.

I saw Suggested Host? in the title and automatically thought of an advertising thread.  If it had said props to DosDawg, then perhaps in my dreamlike state of mind at 6 AM it would have registered as, well, a proprs thread to DosDawg, as I only skimmed a few of the words here and there.  My apologizes.

I use Arvixe.  Their tech support has been great at answering my questions....and I know I have probably driven them nuts.  I chose them because they had good reviews, were recommended by others, and they were dirt cheap.  It seemed like a good low risk option.  And if I did not like them, they provided the ability to backup the database and download it, so I knew I could move if needed.  So far, so good.

They offer a lot for the price.   The one thing I am not certain about is how much I can do with Dolphin at each level of service they offer.  This matters because if your site gets big, you may need to go to a dedicated box.  The drawback to this is you lose unlimited space/bandwidth they offer at the lower levels so depending on what you are doing, that jump could be really expensive.  This would be the point where you would probably want to shop around a bit or consider colocation.

The only negative post I found on them was that they will cut off a site if its usage is too high.  Their lower level unlimited accounts are limited by the processing power allocated (and they are clear about this).   They require the user to monitor their own website for usage and make the appropriate adjustments when required.  It looked like the users they cut off may not have done so, so I am not sure if the complaint is legit or not.

I cannot speak for the other services mentioned here as I only tried Arvixe.  My other interests were all on my own servers at The Planet.

Best of luck

A server with a Gigabit of dedicated bandwidth.... Actually, you can do 100Mbt for 399 all the way up to a 20 server farm with 100 bazillion terabits for about $149,999.00 a month or something like that

I think that's the whole point. They are offering enough bandwidth where you can take full advantage of the servers resources without having to worry about that specific bottleneck. It will be powerful if you are trying to do some true video streaming....

You guys are using the terms 'bandwidth' and 'Connection speed' as if the two terms are interchangeable.  They are not the same thing.  In this context, bandwidth is the total volume of data transferred, and connection speed is how fast that data can be transferred.

A 100Mbps server can realistically serve up about 25 HD concurrent video streams @ a 3Mbps data rate.  A 1Gbsp server can deliver 250 concurrent streams.  The idea of hosting 10 sites on a 1Gbps server, instead of 1 site on a 100Mbps server, is that each site will have up to 1Gbps of transfer speed when needed.  This, of course, assumes that all 10 sites aren't required to stream videos at exactly the same time.  The concept won't work if one site out of the 10 decides to be a BW hog.

i'll just throw in my 2 cents. i set up a dolphin site about 3 or 4 months ago and chose arvixe as a cheap temporary solution just to get a site online for development and testing purposes. the only members on the site now are myself and 3 of my developers. i've already experienced a total of about 4 hours of downtime. also, my site has been very slow the majority of the time and pages wont even load sometimes. their customer service is ok, but extremely slow. it takes them an average of 6 to 8 hours to respond to email. that is just unacceptable in the hosting business.

anyway, i've heard good things about terabye hosting and the dawg, so i think we will give them a try when we launch to the public.

i'm tired
