Your question is ambiguous. The TOP menu in Dolphin is the main navigation menu, and a site wouldn't be much good without it.

I was confused on the menu structure of Dolphin when I first started and HL helped me to understand it.

The top menu is important for navigation of your site.  The sub-menu is a dynamic menu that changes between members and areas of the site.  You need both for a proper navigation system.

And how do you propose the various sets of sub menu items will appear when you need them?  Your thought process it a bit out of whack.  It's like asking to cut down a tree, but leave all the branches standing.

Hello

I believe you are talking about removing the top menu item without deleting submenu. If so, maybe this post can help     Remove-item-from-top-menu-without-deleting-submenu.htm

If you would like to remove the entire top menu without deleting submenu, it is possible to apply CSS.

top_menu.css

div.sys_main_menu {

      display: none;

}

I hope this helps

 That will certainly do it, leaving the only possible way to navigate the various modules, via the members account page Quick Links, creating a navigation nightmare.  But if that's what the guy wants, so be it.
