Transferring cpanel to new server, V transferring data into new build

Hi, just a question out of interest.

What are your thoughts on the following situation.

Trying to transfer an old (7.0.0) version of Dolphin onto a new server then update. Site has members, and data.

Either transfer cpanel into new cpanel, then run Dlphin updates

Done this but causing problems. updates did not work and having to go back to original 7.0.0 and start over... (long list of probs can be provided!)

Or new installation on new server then look to transfer data from old site into new one.

With this, is there a list anywhere of what files would need to be copied across to fill members profiles, photos, module content etc... from old to new site?

Database - can a new sql be built, then backed up.

Then take back up of old sql, copy data to new, rename and reupload as new database but with previous content?

thoughts?

a transfer is a transfer, and it shouldnt matter if you upgrade on current host or new host.

your inquiry that you transferred cpanel --> cpanel and tried to upgrade causes problems, yes the list of problems would need to be included here on a text file preferably rather than posting into the thread.

the problem with doing a fresh install and then trying to import your data from 7.0.0 to 7.0.6 is that there are structure changes, both on the fileset and database structure. it can be done, its tedious work.

would be more productive most likely to try to troubleshoot the problems with the upgrade as you have it, and see what can be worked out there.

Thanks DosDawg. Id rather just use the upgrades instead of trying to import all the data into a new install...

I got to 7.0.4 updating from 7.0.0 and then got huge problems...

Something was causing the server memory to spike with each tiny change made on the site after the upgrade.

Spiking as in 94% use constantly for 15 mins before dropping, this meant I could not access the website at all as the server was just freezing up... (dedicated server)

Anyway, I fell back to the original cpanel import (7.0.0) and am starting over with testing in between each upgrade and backup in between each one...

Im not sure the original 7.0.0 has not been messed with though, several thing just dont work such as mass mailer. I know a couple of people had looked at the code before so may have had some core changes...

Im not getting any error report emails from the site, not sure if crons are setup.

CPanel is CPanel, why would you move it? The new server probably already has it installed. All you need to transfer is the folder containing the site, then copy the DB and place it on the new server, fix the db connection status and voila!

Once the old site is moved and working, then do a stepped upgrade 7.01, 7.02, etc....
