Video Message Not Working...

Hi there,

My video message doesn't seem to be working for some reason I hope you can shed some light onto why...

It pulls my camera fine, but when I go to hit the record button it tells me "Connection Error.  Click Again To Reconnect"

On a similar note, the video also does not seem to work on the video chat.

I looked around in the forum and found a post regarding RMS, but am not sure A- if that's the issue and B-What it is/Where to acquire it.

I thought the hosting was all that was needed.

I'm not super techy (not a 95 year old computer dunce either), so if you'd kindly reply like you were talking to the latter I'd greatly appreciate it =)

Thanks in advance for your help.  Having alot of fun with this so far =)

Thanks very much.

1. I went to the download link for the ray media server ap and it just forwarded me to the dolphin 7 page.

Uploading Files

  • Download the Ray Media server application suitable for your operating system (it will be an archive for UNIX and an executable file for Windows).

2. For this part....

access.dat – input all domain names which will be allowed to access RMS. Every domain name should be written on a separate line and should not contain "http://" and "www", just yourdomain.com;

I have the script installed in domain.com/social/

Do I just add the main domain and or add the extension?

3.  Also, I'm not familiar with shell, It seems like I just use ftp I believe... but I don't really understand this part:

You need the ports 1935, 1936 and 5080 to be opened/enabled in your firewall or iptables.

I use filezilla for ftp and i know there's a place for the port, but never really use it.  Is this where I'd add that (and if that's the case, how do I do all 3?) and I'm not sure about iptables.

Thanks again for the help, it's greatly appreciated.  =)

Also, My RSS is not pulling... Does that have something to do with the RMS also?

Thanks =)

Yes, adding domain is enough. About other - well, u'd better ask ur hosting - may they to install RMS for u, because without some basic knows better let  install RMS to someone with good experience :-) Some hosting provide similar service.

Fair enough, thanks.

With that said... I have a few more questions then since all the video stuff is pretty important I'd say...

1. It seems to me that some people have recommended different RMS hosting solutions separate to regular hosting.   Doesn't it need to be installed in the Root?  Or is it just that you have to LIST the domains maybe....

2. Does anybody have a good recommendation for an RMS hosting provider?  I've found 3 so far

http://www.joombyte.com/content/view/58/63/

http://www.rmshosting.net/

can't find the 3rd now...lol..

And actually just found this too...

http://www.expertzzz.com/Downloadz/view/3220

It seems to me that joombyte has a higher bandwidth for the price.  But if I go to sign up it asks for new domain stuff... so in that case, do I just create a new domain called WhateverBecauseItDoesntMatter.com and then I guess just add the dolphin domain (hosted elsewhere) in the RMS stuff?

3.  And lastly, just because you get the hosting doesn't mean it's installed for you right?  Does anybody know/ recommend someone that could install this for me?

Thanks a bunch, everyone's been great in here =)

Oh, also, mydatery said that the RMS will not run in a shared envioroment.  If that's the case, will getting the RMS hosting be good enough, or does that mean I'll also need to upgrade to VPS or a dedi for where the script is installed (different hosting account).

Thanks =)

If your on a Shared Server then you must "lease" RMS in order to get all your items to work, if you have a VPS or Dedicated server then you can either lease or install your own RMS.

I think the video streaming & encoding features are overkill for almost all sites.  The few where the need is really that important for the membership should probably stick with dedicated hosting or ISPs that specifically spell out usage limits for plans & offer guarantees on their specs.

Can you point me in the right direction for leasing RMS then please =)

Are the sites I listed above like joombyte a solution for this?

Thanks all =)
