Here's an email I got from Rayz:
I have some great news for you. Dolphin 7.0.1 is releasing soon (there are
just several
tickets to be closed) and one of the most important features of new version
is improvement of Videos section. Now you will have a possibility to
increase video playback quality and reduce the file size.
This will allow your users to play videos with more comfort - videos will be
loaded faster and their playing will be smoother with higher quality.
How this can be possible? Well, we should appreciate video H264 and audio AAC standards. But
the good news come with bad ones as a rule. Unfortunately this one is not an
exception also. In order to have such ability you will need to ask your hosting
provider to install ffmpeg converter on your server. Our statically precompiled
ffmpeg binary (coming with Dolphin 7 by default) is not able to convert videos
to H264 standard due to its static origins.

I would hope that Rayz also sent this information to Dolphin hosting providers, and that all such providers are busily making the required changes. My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |
Is "ffmpg converter" something standard that shared hosts will know about, or is it some proprietary thing?
|
I have not applied the update yet, but I will do it this evening and see how they are processing video now. If it's still using ffmpeg to convert, there is a command line, which we can change. Just gotta find it hehe |
I am so glad to hear this. I spent HOURS last night creating an HD video of a bee attack on one of my tow trucks. The end result was a fantastic 6.5 minute - 145 MB video. An outstanding quality acheivement for me. I then uploaded that video to my site and it just chopped the holy crap out of it. The video plays like a 1990 youtube video. It's frikkin horrible.
I wait for that adjustment from Rayz like I am waiting for the IPB mod... with baited breath.

I am on the edge of my seat thinking OMG we have lost the quality of Movies "Big Drawback".......Sydeburnz is going to get back for us.......we can only hope..........
You take for granted all the things you did before an update happens BC they do what they are suppose to do but you are quickly reminded that that can't be done...........
Thank you in advance SydeBurnz............

still 7.0.1 has some problem with h264. most video hostings are support with h264. my server support h264 with libx. all other video scripts are working fine with iphone convert. but dolphin is not working ???? |
Pretty sure I found it. As soon as Cron completes I'll know for sure. Will post my findings as soon as I'm satisfied I'm in the right spot :) |
You are the best........Thank you so much.......What I can't understand is why Boonex doesn't not use your code? Csampson |

I have a development server going with a fresh install of 7.01 on a dedicated box, and what I have noticed is when I enable the H264 codec in the admin panel the videos will not process. I assume this is because of houstonlively posted from Rayz email...

He did not go on to explain if that was available for those of us with dedicated boxes or how to do it. I am happy to test it for everyone and post my finding here if you can provide me with the details to download, install & configure the ffmpeg converter mentioned in the post.

Better to ask your provider install all of these
Mencoder (support for jpeg, gif, png, freetype, h264, lame, xvid, mad, win32codecs, dv, 3gp, mp4, theora)
Mplayer
FFmpeg (from SVN) (support for jpeg, gif, png, freetype, h264, libx264, lame, xvid, mad, win32codecs, dv, 3gp, mp4, theora flvtool2 or yamdi
now days we need (HD Video)
x264 Library for Mencoder (http://www.videolan.org/developers/x264.html)
GPAC MP4Box (http://gpac.sourceforge.net)
neroAacEnc (http://www.nero.com/eng/technologies-aac-codec.html)
Additional codecs required for some rare video formats (http://www.sklav.com/?q=node/2)
in my server I have all of them

My provider is me.. It is not a managed server. I manage it, which keeps the price below $200 a month for a nice dedicted box, so I will have to install these myself as I am sure they do not come standard in a CentOS 5 distro. |
yes, you have to install your self. don't messup when you install |
I understand you all wanting to get this going as soon as possible but I would just wait it out. If Rayz is working on it, You know the end result will be very good and worth it. Why waste your time trying to get this all working on your own only to have him complete it a day or two after you do? http://towtalk.net ... Hosted by Zarconia.net! |

in the case of the one fella, he needs to do the install himself in order to utilize the H265 format. Rayz is not going to release anything for this. the work has been done, as stated on the release of Dolphin-v.7.0.1 there are no changes on RMS with this release. So if you are on shared hosting, you may be hard pressed to get your hosting provider to install the new release of ffmpeg on the server. if you are on VPS or Dedicated, managed or unmanaged then this is something that must be done by the account owner or the admin of the server.

Ok, maybe I misunderstood.

Hey Dawg.... are you on top of this h.264 thing? What's the plan over there at TBH? h.264 is major bw saver. My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |
I've got ffmpeg 0.5 installed on mine now and I have anew problem. I can;t get the H264 checkbox in flash settings to stay checked. http://towtalk.net ... Hosted by Zarconia.net! |

Perhaps there's a file/database entry you can manually edit?

Yeah, I was thinking about that. I can;t check it right now, undergoing a server wide update. Soon as that's done, I'll look into it.

HL, still dealing with other BS issues that have presented themself with the D7.0.1. of course we will have this feature ready by months end. Just not that many on these servers currently to warrant that as priority. Yes i agree it is a BW saver, however, we are not facing any issues of that kind at the moment. will keep you updated on this HL. thanks for asking.
