Viewing profiles

Not sure if this has been addressed before, searched and cannot find anything.

Is there a way so that visitors to a site cannot view member profiles. I removed the menu items related to member profiles so only logged in members see the menus but if a visitor types the address, for example www.mywesite.com/username it shows the users profile.

Is there a way to not allow this unless you are a logged in member? My users have been complaining about this and if anyone can help me sort it out I would appreciate it.

Have you disabled 'view profiles' from the respective membership settings in admin?
