Hello,
I bought a web space onto a linux hosting with follow feature:
- disk space: 5000 MB;
- Monthly Bandwidth Transfer: 100000 MB;
- Apache version: 2.2.11 (Unix);
- PHP version: 5.2.9;
- MySQL version : 4.1.22-standard-log; - Architecture: i686; - Operating system: Linux;
I would like know if this features can satisfy a perfect working of Dolphin for a community that is at the beginning and for this I can not know how long it will last.
Thanks.
Tarab.

Have you checked your list against the minimum server requirements on this page yet?

Hi,
Yes I saw that link.
So, I wish to know if, in your opinion, feauters of my hosting are optimal for a correct working of Dolphin.
If I wish create a big community, are appropriate this feautures?

It's not enough information to make that determination.
Is mbstring support installed.?
Is Apache configured to allow overrides via the .htaccess file?
Is php xslt support installed?
Is GD support installed?
Also 5000MB is only 5GB. It's not very much space. Music and videos will eat that up fast.

In order:
- mbstring: I do not if it is installed;
- apache alows .htaccess (mod_rewrite);
- php xslt support : I do not if it is installed (how I should do to know that?);
- if 5GB are not much, how much space do you suggest me?

You could send an email to your host asking if their server settings match the requirements for Dolphin. Either copy and paste the requirements to the email or give them the link to the page like I did above. They should be able to tell you instantly if all the requirements are covered in your plan. The advertised limits for servers are usually never enough info to judge if it's sufficient for certain scripts. |
I agree. Your host should be able to tell you if you show them the requirements list.
As for HD space. I have 20GB where i am hosting, and if my site should take off, it would not be enough. But it is fine for now. So i would start with at least that.
How much space you will need really boils down to what you plan on doing with your site. Some sites don't allow videos, other don't allow either music or video and still others focus on that by setting up youtube style clones.
Both music and especially videos use a lot of bandwidth and hard drive space. So if you expect and want a lot of that activity on your site, then you will need a lot more space.

Hello,
thank you very much for your support.
I will write a mail to my hosting-support and later I will go back here to inform you about my features.

Hi Tarab,
I'm using Arvixe and believe it to be the best. I've posted a topic about this; so if you wish, please feel free to read it.

Hello goldman and thankyou for your interesting answer.
I visited the site you have mentioned and I have found it very interesting.
Can we talk in pvt?
I would like to have an opinio from you. eg. if Dolphin is compatible with every feature, etc...
