Yes you can try. They all have their own little twists and turns. Each have their own good and evil in them. None will ever be the best at everything. It is just the direction a company or software creator chooses to take with his/her product.
Anything you buy prepackaged has shortcomings. A very basic analogy; similar to buying a frozen pizza in a supermarket, there are many kinds out there, some have more cheese and others have more pepperoni and yet others have thick crust and others thin. So it is your preference and taste. The creator will make what he thinks his majority customers want. You will never find a frozen pizza that is 100% to your liking, hell you may come to like some more then others (because you will compromise and settle with the best from the bunch), but if you were to make one at home it would be exactly as you would want it.
Another point to consider; I have not worked with a software that is 100% perfect or as it should be - Never - EVER. Users change, market changes, your software needs to adjust. There are so many components, you will find bugs years later after development caused by one very unique set of circumstances that you had never envisioned or encountered previously.
All I am suggesting is if you have a great idea for your site, then start it as best you can and see where it takes you and go from there. If you are waiting or looking for that perfect software that will do it all to your liking and fit your market and your budget - you will be waiting a long time and never live your dream or learn. There is no way you can succeed without falling or failing, if you do let me know how.
I do not suggest going crazy and throw away all your hard earned money, but I do suggest try and go for it. Make it happen. Sorry for the lesson in philosophy.
