When is a third party Module NOT compatible?

I purchased a photo module for 7.2 some time back and the author has since updated it for 7.3. It clearly shows on his site that the module is compatible with 7.3 and I downloaded the latest version.

When I installed it, the module looked great and did most of the things I needed. Then the chickens came home to roost.

The upload facility which works perfectly does NOT post photos to the Outline or Timeline. I wrote to the author and his answer was:

The module was created before the Timeline module was shipped with Dolphin and this feature is not included."

I should point out that the author also sells his own version of Timeline for an excessive price and naturally the module works with it. "Would you like fries with that?"

If the module was indeed created before the Dolphin Timeline was invented, how can it possibly be marketed as compatable with 7.3, or 7.2 which also shipped with the timeline as a standard module?

The author thinks this lame excuse is sufficient to justify the sadly lacking and much needed feature. He went on to say that the expensive module was basically for viewing photos and my users should continue to use the Dolphin Module for uploading. It didn't say that on the marketing page and if that was the case, why go to all the trouble of supplying an excellent upload feature?

My question: If a third party module doesn't work in harmony with the modules supplied with Dolphin, is it compatible with that version?

It wouldn't look like it.

Yes.

Its not a requirement, and buyer should confirm this or anything that is not explicitly listed in the "features" list before buying. i.e: if not listed in features list than its probably doesn't include it.

I guess you should get a refund?

@Prashank25, I accept your answer but not your explanation. The product clearly states it's compatible with Dolphin 7.3.0 and it isn't. The buyer can only do so much and when I visited the test site I didn't see the upload feature which was hidden. I assumed I was using it when I uploaded a photo which appeared in the timeline, however, when I purchased and installed the module I found I had in fact used the Dolphin upload which looked different on the author's site.

Oddly, the module is far superior to the Dolphin photo module which must still be installed. That's not unusual, Modzzz modules are the same. I'd prefer to use it and I argue that a talented author should be able to fix the issue in an hour. However that would make people think twice about purchasing the author's own very expensive timeline.

Compatibility with 7.3 only means compatibility with the core dolphin package, that is, ability to install and work on a default dolphin install without any other requirement(s).

Adding "integrations" with other packaged or non-packaged module is not part of compatibility, it can be called a "feature" but that's debatable.

Its unfortunate that this still happens, if there are no logins provided, then request it. I can not say anything more about this matter, you have to get this sorted out with the author, good luck :)
