Where can I find...

video or instructions of adding modules for a community site?

Thanks in advance,

RC

When you purchase a module from the market, they typically include full instructions on installation.

Most are as simple as uploading a directory to yoursiteroot/modules and installing via Admin Panel -> Tools

If you would like information on installing the default modules, here is a good source (Scroll to the bottom):

Thank you. I did not know that.

Now that I have that answer that leads me to another question. And it is, "when I installed the out of the box Dolphin it had a lot of default modules - video, payment, membership levels, etc.. that would work with the membership site / community I am building?"

What I understand by your reply is I should purchase upgraded versions made by others that come with installation instructions. Is this correct?

And if I have a custom color scheme will these purchased modules effect that theme?

Here is what I am trying to implement into this community.

1) Membership levels

2) Membership profiles

3) Chat

4) Video

5) Messaging

6) paycart

7) products or shopping area or mall - whatever its called

8) restricted areas for highest level memeber

9) download capabilities

10) training area

11) blog

12) wall

Now because of my lack of understanding of these modules I may have listed some that actually are a part of another module and I just don't know it. Right now I am listing what my goals are in developing the type of site I need so that someone with experience, like yourself, can provide some guidance and insight.

Thanks again for your help and insight,

RC

Much of what you have listed is available via default modules and should not need to be purchased, unless you want additional enhancements beyond what they are capable of.

The two that stand out are Training area and Restricted areas - I'm not sure what type of content you want within these or how you plan on delivering it, but you may need to seek a module from within the market to accomplish it. I have a "Premium Content" section on my website available to paying members, and I am utilizing Modzzz's Ultimate Articles to deliver it, as it allows you to set access permissions on a per content basis. It is also nice because it opens the default articles module up to allow photos, videos & more to be integrated directly into the content.

If you haven't already, I recommend standing up a sandbox website where you can install all of the default modules and get to know their limitations. To date, I haven't found any all inclusive documentation that will identify the full use of each one.

Man, you're helping me out a lot. I understand where you're coming from. I will check out the aftermarket module you're using for your premium memebership. Sounds like something that may work for me.

And you know I did install the default plugins but I don't know what I am doing and it messed up the menus really bad. You click on one and it would have something like this in it: _video module

Something like that. All of them started with an underscore in from of the name of the module. Once again my lack of knowledge is really holding me back. That's why I thought there may be some videos that showed a rookie how to implement the standard modules so that they worked with the out of the box dolphin software.

No problem Rob, I can appreciate where you are coming from because just over a year ago I was in the same position.

It sounds like you may have changed something with the language keys on the navigation menu? If you try to rename them on the menu item (system name) itself and not using the actual language key it can get kind of screwy.

I'm still learning quite a bit about the engine every day, one of the most valuable things I've done is create my little sandbox and a restore point in the database - so I can basically play around with settings and revert back to ground zero if anything blew up on accident. Gives you great experience on how you'd actually go about restoring your site in production if the situation were to ever occur.

Thanks for the input. I understand the sandbox concept and have used one a couple of times. Makes perfect sense. I was just hoping to find some videos on how to install modules and I could do them myself. Not trying to be cheap, just doing the simple things that can be done by me without messing them up or slowing down site development. I have no problem paying someone to do what I can't or don't know how to do. But at the same time I don't want to be foolish with my money and pay for something I could have done myself.

To clarify things more here is a mock up of my site on the peoples server I hired to do the cosmetics:

http://heminfotech.net/boonex/

and here is the actual location of my community site which they will work on shortly.

So maybe the answer is to hire someone to put the inside together too. I really don't want to but at this time there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of guidance on the simple things dolphin offers. Maybe I made a mistake choosing this platform. I hope not..:o(

Sorry I must have misread your intentions. I now get that you are looking for tutorials...

I can probably throw some basic stuff together, what specifically is most important for you to see how to do or learn right now?

This is a great platform, but it will be quite costly if you're trying to do too much outside of the original framework.

Man u r awesome. If you could show me one video on how to correctly install and setup the default modules that would be great. It could be the video module, membership module, payment module, whatever you want. That way I can see what ur doing and do it myself. I'm really having a hard time "Visualizing" how they look and work once installed.

Thank u for taking the time to do this. I really appreciate it.

I'm on it, will see what I can get together for you by tonight/early tomorrow morning. Might take a bit of time for me to upload, suffering with a 386kb upspeed out here in the sticks!

Hi guy,

I see where you message me through boonex / unity and it comes through on my iphone but when Iog into my account I can not access your messages. When I click on the "Messages" link at the top of the page it takes me to some goofy page with all kinds of ads and links. It makes no sense. I looked all over that page for you message but could not see it. Any suggestions?

And man I appreciate the effort on making those videos!
