Why Dolphin Will Never Be A Success

In two words, "The Wall"

If the developers don't get serious about how important the wall is going to be to D7, then now matter what other bells and whisles they add, it will never be successful for anyone's site.

Don't get me wrong now. I know some of you are  mad at me so far and ready to pull your keyboard trigger to retaliate, but just hear me out.

Let's compare myspace and facebook. Why is facebook so much more popular than myspace when myspace gets most of the media attention? It's simple, They have a better way of allowing communication between members. You just cannot beat how facebook has taken communication to a whole new level.

D7 could be just as good. In fact, most of the groundwork is already laid out for this to work better with d7, but it's not quite there yet. A social network has got to be personal or no one comes back. If no one can tell what's going on between friends, then what would make d7 special? Nothing! That's why there has got to be more attention given to the wall.

So I beg the staff, once again as in previous posts, to please work on the wall. It does not even send email notices when another member posts something. This is basic, but not there. Profile comments can be done away with completely if the wall would work better. But neither does what they should.

Why would you want to get an email notice everytime someone posts something to your wall?   For me, that would be annoying, and something else to increase server load.  I suppose it's ok to have this as a feature as long as it can be turned off.  I do agree that there is plenty of room for improvement on the wall.

Not sure I agree with the wall being the primary reason for Facebook overtaking Myspace.  I think it's because Facebook has more of an adult appeal..... Myspace is infested with pre-teenagers, and it shows.  That's a big turnoff for  the 25 and over crowd.

I certainly agree that email alerts, under user control, are critical to developing an active community, but don't you think saying that "Dolphin will never be a success" is a bit of an overstatement.  I think Dolphin is going to be a great success.  Perhaps you just wanted an attention grabbing title because this issue is important to you?

I am just getting into some of these "wall" issues, and noticed that it has placed my own actions on my wall.  I don't have anything against this information being displayed, but am not sure this is the right place for it.  Shouldn't this be in a block or section somewhere called simply "recent actions".

Dolphin WILL be a success.... 99.9% of the sites people make by using it, well that's a different story :-)

Well i am using Boonex and i have upto 1000 Active Members. few problems i face is ORCA FORUM!! the forum is really bad.. Befriend Option is not that good. we didnt get any mail when someone add us. Privacy Problems for Members and few more things. but still i think boonex is best. if they work on facebook and myspace.. they can get many option for the users. Groups are not really good. i tried D7 but the main problem is Orca forum. no option of 2nd page. if we got 100 posts it will be shown on the same page. anyways i think everyone is waiting for D7. I think Boonex is better than SOcialEngine and all others.

IF YOU SEE DOLPHIN CODE, YOU CAN DEVELOP IT FOR YOUR OWN SELF, make is as great as facebook.

modifying the code creates problems for future upgrades. Yes, I agree that dolphin is perhaps the best social networking software there is, I just hope to see it more social through some tweakes in the right places.

Reni was cooking Sate Ayam for me... No, just kidding ;-) We did exchange some tricks about Dolphin which is good but not perfect. Technically, the script is very sophisticated but ergonomics can be very bad sometimes (just my humble opinion, I'm here since v. 5.6...).

D7 will be much better. This is a quite megalomaniac project (positive)... and it will be more difficult than ever to deal with the script (membership level + status + privacy... and lot of Ajax...).

Dolphin 7 will never make it if they don't get their butts busy and finish it.

I agree. Beta 7 is dead in the water. Nobody is working on it, and the tickets keep stacking up.  Jeez...just go ahead and outsource the programming and charge more for a license later. Speed it up guys...pleeease.

I guessing that D7 will never done, if we disagree to show our real name at Boonex site.  why? because we're using it, we came here to stay with it, and we are one family.  why not all of us agree with the lord.  at least 70-80% agree with that than we are done.

JUST BE PATIENT , coding is an art, and boonex stuff are doing it , hehe
