Why did you choose Dolphin?

I have my own reasons but with all the complaints I've read I am wondering why are some of you guys are sticking with it?

***The recent 7.0.1 update sorta works for me. A few issues such as not being able to add a subcategory in the ads was a pain but I think I might have a fix for that anyway.

every one has his or here own reason to take Dolphin. But I have almost 10 sites under Dolphin and have not big problems.
The biggest problems are if you want to use webcams chat or rekording. I don't use that at all.

I'am now two years with Dolphin and stay to it.  :)

My site does not use web cams. I've never had a problem with it but then again I only had 2 other people on it.

I honestly can't think of any that comes close in terms of the shear depth of functions.

I have my own reasons and I've shared some of them today in another thread. But if the support is so bad and the product is so buggy why do some people choose to stay?

Depending on your usage, JomSocial - comes very close.

You need to augment it with a few third party mods but that is pretty much par for the course with Dolphin too.

I would also go as far to say that in some areas is easily surpasses Dolphin - it is a mature product, it is far more extensible, it has better support, a more extensive community, ROI is much quicker as it's heaps cheaper to deploy, update cycles are more frequent, the Joomla extension directory is what the marketplace here should be...

I could go on... (but I won't)

LOL.

By the time you have figured this out - you are already $$$$'s into it - both for investment in mods / fixes / templates / etc and also for the number of hours spent getting it to work for your given application. Some spend literally years nursing it into play.

Most of these long term advocates have been waiting for D7, as it was heralded as the the last word in CMS's. There were a lot of dissapointed people when it was released (a year later than promised) with over 300 bugs in it.

But, even so, for some reason people continue to stay and wait.

Personally I think that it's some kind of VooDoo that keeps people here.

Etomite is more powerful and feature-packed than Dolphin, and has built-in support for all the latest trends in social networking, including multimedia sharing and babysitting for the children you wanted to abort, but your Christian wife refused to do so, even when held at gunpoint by you while drunk after a heavy night out drinking.

Anyone who realizes what I just said will win a tee shirt. Obviously, you don't get one.

DM, thanks for the input. I looked at jomsocial and it's a barren wasteland compared to dolphin. It doesn't even have an events module. They are still trying to figure that one out.

Do you know of a list that compares the two side-by-side?

This would be good to know.

Below is the legacy version of the Boonex site, maintained for Dolphin.Pro 7.x support.
The new Dolphin solution is powered by UNA Community Management System.
