most times, these issues arise on custom modules, when the modules are not cross compatible, and where a site owner will try to install like function modules, and this ends up breaking things.

other issues we have seen are from the free custom templates, deanos templates and gorpus's templates present the least troubles.

then there is the infamous error where there is no rhyme nor reason, and it just appears randomly on some sites and on others it never has an issue.

but overall, the kinks are getting knocked out, time is not on our side at times, and when we want something to work, we want it to work now, and not when the next patch is released.

i know many tickets are written, and if you have a bug that needs to be confirmed, there are those of us here who would provide concurrence on replicating the purported bug, but would need to know what steps you are taking as well as what modifications are on your site so that we can try to replicate the issue and get them reported.

help us help you.

It's because the developers used languages that are known to be buggy to create this portal. They also used other problematic and buggy things such as extensions and applications. Some of which were fixed or updated to something that works better over 10 years ago. They also used buggy and strange things instead of decade or more old systems that are known to work well that everyone is used to.

It makes no sense.

If someone were to give a list of the issues with this portal you would be scrolling for hours.

The very big positive to this system is the cosmetics of it. The cosmetics are absolutely awesome! But everything else is to be desired.

you know, when i first installed dolphin some years ago, i was irritated as well. though i couldnt just leave it alone. i had to keep coming back. i too was a fan of phpnuke, postnuke, e107, wordpress, b2evolution, jamroom, phpbb, and a huge number of others, however, none, and i mean none, provided what dolphin provided even back then, and i am talking about something like 8 years ago.

so with said, i would like to challenge you to write a list of "bugs" that you could find on the dolphin application. however, you must be on a server compatible with server requirements as recommended by the developers. and you must only be running default modules, not customizations, and the template must be uni.

i would like to see this list, because i am pretty sure it does not exist. most of the problems with dolphin are user-related issues, either from installing a module that is non-compatible, or a template that is non-compatible, or some other nuance that creates these issues.

if you were to work with just the default of dolphin, i truly believe it would operate somewhere around the 75% mark.

and when i state 75% im referring not only to things that may have some buggies, which all software does, but things that should have been included for administration aspects of the site.

but i would like to offer a reward of $25.00 to the one who submits the most verifiable bugs on a default installation, and using the uni template, on a server that meets the requirements.

if you are up for that, say aye, and i will create the rules of this contest, and challenge.

i am interested in seeing this list that would require me to scroll for hours.

and on top of the $25.00 reward, i will provide you with an ad-free license number to use on your dolphin site.

i am that interested in seeing what you can show us.

Wish I could get in on this, but I am very happy with the software... of course, I am just a neophyte at this whole thing, anyway... lol... does that qualify me for the ad free license? .. lol

@DosDawg, are you telling me that most modules from the market place have an issue?

The other issue I see is that site owners overload their sites.

I think he's actually talking about mods, which make changes to core files.  A new version can quickly make those useless (and possibly break your site), and two mods requiring edits to the same file can start breaking things, especially if you're not paying attention.

Nothing wrong with mods, though.  It's people mindlessly installing them and upgrading their sites.
