Zipped rar file D7 Template

My template is in a zipped rar file. What is it, how do I open it and where do I put it. I am just getting D7 installed at my host, as of now I have nothing but the template the designer gave me.

Rar files are unpacked with a rar unarchiver.

The template is useless until D7 is installed, up an running. Then ask the designer of the template how it's installed. Especially for mods. If it was not included with D7 then always ask the designer/developer of your mod first before asking here because obviously the designer/developer of the mod, knows his/her mod best.

Your jumping the gun a little. Getting a template before the site is even installed is moving a little to fast.

Thanks deano92964,

My site is now installed and "live" @ www.parentsinteractive.com

Where do I get a "rar unarchiver"? Is it something that is in the control panel/ admin area?

My designer is out of the picture now, due to personal problems, so I am on my own with a zipped template in I don't know what language or program.

Based on the template installed on my site now and the 800k template I have waiting to be downloaded, it is just a "skin" with little - no - mods just colors and a logo and marquee pictures

When I apply my template w/ my logo, will the BoonEx logos adjust around my logo? I don't mind the BoonEx links at first on my site, I am happy to advertise how I am building my site with OSS Freeware!

Help is greatly needed, I am brand new to all of this and don't know alot of what is going on. I wish there was a manual ;-)

I need my template applied to what Dolphin came with by Christmas morning, this is now my full time mission.

Please PM me with a course of action.

Thanks

John

You can google WinRAR or even winzip can unzip an RAR file. Once your Template has been unzipped (unrar's) on your local computer, you would need to upload the contents of that zip (rar) to your /templates directory.

Not knowing your Dolphin version, you would change your template from the Admin Panel >Settings area. I cant tell you exactly not knowing the version.

Thanks Chris,

Will it open on my Mac OS X if it is a winzip file? I believe my designer was on Mac.

I have never hear of a rar file :-)

It was installed today, My guess is it's D7RC3 I would think. How do I find out? It is at JoomByte, they installed it and they are VERY helpful.

If it is a zip file, it should open on a Windows machine even if he was working on a MAC. You may not be able to edit some of the graphics if they were created on a MAC specific program though. And Yes I know, JoomByte will help you in any way they can.

Will it open on a Mac?

Muahh.. Sorry, I thought your post said your "designer" was using a Mac. Missed where you said you were too :)

Here are some things that you can use on your MAC to unzip files:

I thought you were talking about a rar file.

ZIP file support is built into mac osx. No additional software should be needed.

Double click the zip file and finder in mac osx should automatically extract it into a folder with the same name as the zip file.

Well at least the newer versions do.

Try it and see if it works.

I downloaded it, a Rar file zipped opened on the desktop, clicked on it and the files were extracted into a folder marked Template. Simple.

I will figure out what these new files are tomorrow.

Thanks for the help.

How many Dolphin Site Owners does it take to unzip a file?

12, 11 to talk about it and 1 to still be confused.

This is absolutely the longest thread I have ever seen to tell someone to double click somehting.  :))
