i read here: http://www.sitejabber.com/reviews/www.boonex.com
that you need to buy modules for groups etc, i thought this all came with the package of dolphin, groups chat etc does it come with it or what is this reviewer talking about?
thanks again

Dolphin includes all these modules by default, albeit uninstalled. You can install them from Administration -> Tools -> Modules.
Apparently it's difficult for some people to understand the concept of modules.

thanks again nathan, i have read around also that boonex is a scam adn that the owner changed his name etc on various review sites. something about you pay $99 but you will end up paying more to have the software fixed and to get help on the forum which so far i have not found to be true as you have all been helpful but just wanted to get your thoughts on these reviews around the net?
also is it true that after 8000 members actively using the database will crash?
thanks again

Dolphin works. What doesn't work is when people try to change the core files without taking into consideration it can affect the site. I've used Dolphin as a starting point framework for dozens of sites. It works if you know what you're doing.
As for crashing at 8k members? That is contingent on tuning the code, SQL, database and hardware. Any site not tuned will crash.
I am a full time PHP programmer and have worked on large projects and have been included in rfps and bids. By using Dolphin as a starting point, you are already saving over 100k in dev costs.
Dolphin is a bargain.

thanks for the reply, so you do need to subscribe after paying the $99 as this right in can just buy modules from the market from reputable people on there which should be fine?
i was thinking of having a seperate database server if this would help? can this be done by changing a config file in the code only?
this is all i would be doing and possibly setting up on ec2 load balancing is dolphin able to be ran on ec2?
thanks again

also do you get free updates to the next version of dolphin 7?
i have to say dolphin 8 looks good but dolphin 7 is more what i am looking for with being a dating style site so be good to know updates would come along free.
thanks again

All updates in D7 are free or part of your package.
Dolphin 8 will most likely require an upgrade cost from Dolphin 7.

The module market is one of the things that has made Dolphin 7 much more accessible. Back-in-the-Dolphin-6-dayzzz, it was very messy and at times hard to determine where errors came from. With modules, it's easier to determine problem areas.
You can point your db to an external db and your media files to a cloud service or cdn. Lots of ways to configure.
If you want more performance there are several options outlined here in the dev docs.
