chat room messages and smilies

I'm having some issues with the chat room, but there are 2 that are just awful for my users, I'd love to get some thoughts and input on or find any fixes..

Chat room messages: Apparently, there is no limit on how long a message can be? Can I fix this and set the character limit to 250 characters? I have people writing stories and blogs and music lyrics in the chat room and the messages are so long it actually, according to some members, crashed their browsers!

Smile set: The smile set defaults to the large yellow smilies.. is there a way I can take them out or have it default to the small smile set? I have immature people coming in and flooding the chat with over 1000 smilies in their chat posts, also supposedly crashing browsers

Other things my users are complaining about are User features like blocking someone you don't like, or deleting any rooms they create..

I'm not sure I can help with your other issues off the top of my head, but you can make your site default to only one set of smilies, by deleting the other smiley folders.

\flash\modules\global\data\smilesets\

In there there should be three folders for smiley packs.  Delete the two you don't want to use.  The one that remains will become default, and will be the only one available.

If you examine the config.xml within these folders, you can also see how to create your own smiley paks.

As for imposing a string size limit on chat messages, I'd like to know how to do this as well.
