clueless. :)

Hi,

Brand new Dolphin user here. I downloaded the package and installed it. Was very pleased at how effortlessly it installed. Only one permission tweak and a php.ini change and it was there! Nice, clean look to it as well. I have read SOME of the docs and looked through the forums here but not enough, undoubtedly.

I expect I'll figure out how to get rid of the Leaders box and change the BoonEx feed to one of my own.

I see Flash apps that are enabled on my Admin side. AV Chat, music player, videos, and so on. However, I have no idea how to get to those apps/widgets. I go to  my site home and search around and see no links/buttons/anything.  :)  Also, I click Add Flash Apps and nothing happens. hmm.

What about a forum?

Basically, how do I get/activate the good stuff...not to say I'm not totally impressed at what I've seen so far. :)

Thanks.

Steve

Features (such as the Flash applications) may be added, or removed from Administration > Tools > Modules. By default, all modules are not installed, including the Flash applications. The Flash Apps page under the modules section is there by default for reasons not even I know of.

Also, you can get rid of the Leaders block by navigating to Administration > Builders > Pages Builder > and selecting the Home Page, where you will have the option to move any blocks you do not wish to use to the inactive section of the page.

ohhh, so even though they show up there, they aren't? That would explain why I can't find em! Hmm, now to figure out how to add modules.

no..wait. I clicked Chat/ Admin and it opened up. So, something is there! Perhaps this is a menu thing or it is obvious and I'm too much of a newbie at this point to notice it.

Just install D7 on your root, then just go to site address and set it up " permissions, database info, etc.) then at the end of setup you'll see add modules click "add modules" and add the ones you want...thats it, simply and easy! welcome to D7

Best Regards,

Ryan

There is a list of modules available in the default package, as mentioned above. To add more modules, you may visit the Unity Martketplace, where there are modifications, among other things for sale, both for free and for a fee.

Edit: we're way past that, Ryan. I'm afraid it's too late for us; there is no going back. Tongue out

never saw a "Add Modules"... I had to do permission checks and so on before, during initial installation.

Thanks! I'll check out the market. I'll look for free things to start with since I'm still in the evaluation stage.

I'm basically wanting to setup a community of people who can have their own "groups" or "areas" but information interchange between all is not only available but encouraged.  I see that Dolphin has what I'm looking for, at least my research has shown that. I'm just in the painful "how do I make it work" stage right now.  :)  I tried Joomla/Jomsocial but it was way too heavy and clunky.

Good luck with your community. Your first modification should be Deano's Tools, which is both free and a must for new users.

Thanks, I did download Deano's tools. Haven't figured how to install it yet but I'll get there.

I'm slowly learning how it all works. I have to admit I am a bit awed at what you've got here. I've looked at a lot of different systems and even spent a week working with Joomla trying to force it into what I needed. I've always done everything just with a text editor and GUIs confuse me. I've been a web programmer/developer for a decade or more now but I don't want to struggle with that stuff on this type of project. Social networking is a new toy for me and I don't want to do nuts and bolts right now. I wanna focus on the design and usability.

With Dolphin, most (if not all?) what I need is probably built right in, apparently. The build screens are marvelous.  I was able to remove some fields I didn't want on that form effortlessly.  Whew...good stuff. I found the magic Tools/Modules buttons and added in existing modules. Sweeeeet!

One question: I saw a post in the forums about Boonex site being down and all the other Dolphin sites having problems? I don't quite understand that. My site won't be dependent on the Boonex servers, will it? I understand there is a news feed on the front page and other stuff undoubtedly. That can be modified I would assume.

thanks,

Steve
