customize header and menu bar

how do i change the header and menu bar to a different colour other then its original grey...ive tried various ways suggested and nothing hasnt worked

You need to learn figure out the css; you can try top_menu.css.  The easiest way is to right click on an element and then choose inspect element.  I find that firebug for FoxFire is better than the built in; or I think so.
