database changes between beta versions?

Could someone tell me if there is an easy way to tell the database changes between different beta versions?   I know in Trac you can see the differences in files but how can you tell the differences between tables?  In fact, I don't really need to know about individual field changes, just if entire tables have changed or stayed the same.  For example, it seems the "pre-defined values" table has been more or less stable through all the betas - which is good since we can just restore that without having to re-enter everything.  What about the profiles table?  or the profile fields table, etc.  Have those changed?  Is there a list somewhere?  - or some kind of "compare" tool?   Thanks.

Rob

p.s.  Another question: on the "profile fields" table, if you do an upgrade, will the join form still work after a restore if it is unchanged?   I tried it once, and it didn't - but there may have been changes in that table I didn't know about.

Rob, short of installing and comparing the answer is yes.

http://winmerge.org/

Download it and use it to compare the sql files from the install directory of the different d7's, this will show you (highlighted) what the differences in the tables are, where tables have been created/deleted, fields within each table and so on.

In addition, you can use this if you have a modified site to compare each of the files to note the altered sections you need to adjust if you can't do an automatic upgrade.  It's time consuming, but quicker than trying to go through it line by line yourself.

Thanks - I had winmerge on my computer, but I got so used to looking at the tables directly that for some reason it never occured to look in the install folder at the sql file.   Looks like very few changes which is good news.   I appreciate your help.

I use Araxis Merge. It is one of the industry standards in terms of merging source code tools. Unfortunately you have to pay for it, but fortunately for me my employer bought my license for my coding work.  I think there is a trial version you can try out. It is the best merging tool I have tried so far, but have not tried winmerge so far and so cannot comment on that. The license is about €99 for a standard edition. You can get it here: http://www.araxis.com/merge/

Try MyDatery's WinMerge first though. Not tried it myself but might be as good. The plus is it is free! Let me know :o)

I did mine the old fashioned way. manually. not recommended though, and certainly not for the faint of heart.
