database problem

Hi All

After upgrade from 7.0.5 to 7.0.6

I had a problem of people no beig able to change their profile and also being able to login. That problem is now solved.

But i solving that problem i have lost my content which is all there in the original database.

So what i need to know is how i can get from the original backup database my articles from ultimate areticles, sounds, blogs and events also the page blocks  too and then add them to the new database i have in order to get them to display?

Any help would be much appriciated

First, how did you resolve the problem?

What should have happened is that after you done the 7.0.5 > 7.0.6 upgrade, you would have needed to go back and make any 'customizations' to core files that you may have done prior to the upgrade.

For example: If you installed a module that required you to edit the member.php file, then you would need to reapply that edit after the upgrade. I had to do this myself after finding out my members couldn't login either. Simply overlook. So I would assume that maybe you have some modules that required editing core files that you forgot to re-do after the upgrade.

Hope that made sense.

Well what i did i set up another installation of 7.0.6 in another folder and uploaded aq copy of the backup of the original database to that. Once i see that the login was working I then exported that database and placed into the original website which works and had kept my members but did not keep my page blocks, sounds, articles and events etc

So i was wondering if there is a way of merging the  original databse with the new database that was made?

Regards

yes you can import, but its a bit of work. what i would suggest you try, is from the 706 install where the logins are working from the backup database, is edit your header.inc.php file and point to your original database, and see if that allows you to login, as something may have gone awry with the upgrade, and there is some glitch catching you on the file structure. so with the new file structure try using the old database..... and see what that gets you.

if you edited the header.inc.php and cleared the cache on the environment you are working with, then i would be interested in seeing what the database error is that you are receiving.

also try the reverse of this, edit the header.inc.php on the primary site the one  you upgraded, to point to the fresh database. see if you can login from that perspective?

also off the wall question, did you backup prior to running the upgrade? if so, i would suggest restoring the backup and trying the upgrade again.
