Come on Boonex you need a Dolphin 7 page like this one for phpFox http://www.phpfox.com/konsort/features/ . The competition is out there... where are you?

There is no list of features for Dolphin 7. BoonEx believes in free spirit, and wishes for us to all walk around blindly, stumbling around over the features in the script, hoping we figure them all out.

I can't believe there isn't a list of features here. I need to troubleshoot some things because of all the errors I'm getting on my site and I can't figure out what feature is what..

Well, here's a start. I need to find the instant messenger chat.. I can't tell if it's the messenger, or simple messenger, or something else..

Anyone know what the difference is between the Messenger and Simple Messenger?

Quote · 30 Jan 2010

Messenger is the video messenger (pop-up window with text, audio and video communication). Simple Messenger is the messenger that appears in the member menu for quick communication.

Also, that is not even close to the entire feature list of Dolphin. Tongue out LyubovL has said that they are working to bring it online soon, but how soon, I do not know.

I have been looking for the same thing. Dolphin definitely needs some kind of beginners manual (on Unity site or downloadable). This would eliminate frustration for beginners. Buying any product without a manual is like walking in the dark with no flashlight. Yeah, you could probably manage on your own, but it will take you way longer to do and it is very frustrating having to search out answers or ask in the forum when it could be right in front of you. That's just my opinion but I can see I'm not alone. Boonex: We need a complete breakdown of the sections in D7 admin and Myphp admin.

yeah, thats just a list of modules..

We definitely need something more then just installation instructions.. More Documentation is a must.. The forums are good for troubleshooting, but not for really installing and working on the network.. While tips from here are great, its tough to search around for everything  you need..

Anyone who feels the same way please post in this thread. If we get a high enough post number, maybe Boonex will notice there is a need for this and act accordingly.

I agree.  Mostly I just want descriptions of what things are.

The only reason I'm able to get through most things beyond a base installation is because I'm a seasoned developer.  Even then, it's taking 2 or 3 times longer to figure certain things out because there's simply no description anywhere of most of the key features or functions.  There's not even descriptions of what certain modules do and trying to translate meaning from the few documented things that seem to be Runglish (Russian-to-English) is like trying to read a novel using Google translation.

As a developer, I would also like an overview of the framework.  Just a description, I'll figure out the rest.  For example, I can't tell if I can override functionality the same way as the template system.  I prefer not to overwrite original source - that just makes any future update integration very painful.

Count me in also I find it totally silly that there is no manual!? Why would this not be a first thing they would of completed before the launch of D7? It is a basic necessity of any software package being offered to the public I feel. The Trac section is super weak on information, and the forum is only as good as the people answering the questions if your lucky to get an answer that is.

Really Boonex please look into this issue I had to ask an agent 3 basic questions that an manual could of cleared up in minutes. Socialengine has one as dose phpfox why not you?

Just a basic break down of the modules would be a good start, such as: what they are? why they are useful? and how to setup? Along with a more in depth explanation on how the setup things like mass mailer? (I can't get this to work!) and How the place in a sitemap.xml for your website and Google webmaster tools (I have figured this out but only by trial and error and its slowing me down a lot).

PLEASE do something about this Boonex there are a lot of people in need of it!

If I was starting from scratch this manual would make me choose phpfox

http://www.phpfox.com/konsort/features/

Come on guys - like ThomasM said a basic breakdown of the modules would be a good start.

What does Dolphin Profile Customiser Version 1.0 do ???

Guess Ill just have to do a test installation and try to figure it out myself :-(

I find it funny how people are confused over modules that are more or less, self-explanatory.

Can someone tell me what the blog module does?  Why it's in a module?  What the difference between it and the Payment Module is?  How I can make them work together so when you post a blog I get a payment?  Now that would be cool.

Have to agree. After choosing Dolphin 7 based on general comments around 'Dolphin', I started looking for manuals/how-tos/guides and came up with very little.

It looks such a powerful tool but if you don't know what it can do and how, it's not as good as it could be.

So true.. I picked Dolphin from other websites and the great promo videos, and didn't read too much into Unity till I paid for a 90day license for it.. then I came across all the issues and lack of a manual, finding that I really had to dig into it to find out what I can do with it... It is a really powerful networking tool, I'd say one of the top 3 if not number 1. However the promo is a little misleading, it's not so easy to use with little to no knowledge of code/database administration..

I found some helpful notes in Unity and in Trac (http://www.boonex.com/trac/dolphin/).. but you really have to dig and use/play with the search engine.

This is amazing stuff that takes a great deal of time and a commitment to learn it.  I can understand that with a free software why there is not a 500 page manual.  Technology changes everyday and you have got to want to use this software and most important learn it.  Everyday you learn this and you thought about that but what it really comes down to is are you willing to put together the time and the effort to get what you want from this web-based program.  Each person here has some reason they want this to work I would think.  It is challenging but it also very user friendly considering the depth of what is here.  The guys here are very nice and some can be a smart ass but after you read what they say you kind of agree.  This is not a program for the uncommitted or if you are looking for the magic phone call from someone who has all the answers.  The key in my mind is o find out what you want to do then go after it to find the answers but it is not on page 386.  There are so many facets to this stuff that it really is overwhelming at best.  There are a pool of people here who are willing to help people that are trying to make this work.  I want to thank all of the people who help me with the answers and gave their ideas and thoughts to help get me to what I think is an amazing site.  The only thing I still need help on is my cron job that uploads video to the site.  It seems like such a trivial part of this site BC of one line of code but I still don't have it right...........

Its a frame work, and the knowledge of the new webmaster is the key to success. Yes there is a learning curve so for all other new things.
If there was a manual this script was not free at all.

It is by trial and error :)
