don't delete group, user delete

When a user who has a group, is written off, is removed, iit's possible who group don`t delete.

I don't see why if a user deletes their account (or if their account is deleted by an administrator), their content should remain. If anything, the content should be removed.

You're serious?  A group will have other members of the site who might want to use its resources.

If there's some sort of "second-in-line" system in place for the group, sure, but if not, it should be removed with the rest of the content. If a group is deleted and members still wish to be a part of said group, they can just remake it.

So if someone creates a group say, for university alumni, and membership is in the hundreds or higher, If the user that created the group leaves the group/site, all content that the group members contributed over the years, should just be deleted?

I do think if an account is deleted, the content from that account should also be deleted along with it. However, I do see your point, that in some situations, it may not be realistic.

What do you propose be done with orphaned groups, then? Who would be the administrators of it?

I would transfer ownership to the site admin, and place the group in a moderation queue.  Then, post a notice in the group forum requesting the members to elect a new group administrator, and give them 30 days or so to comply.  Also an email should be sent to all group members stating that the group owner has gone missing, and explains the process required for keeping the group intact.  Maybe a few warning emails as the deadline approaches.  Most of this process can be automated.  If after 30 days, no one wants to be group admin, then the site admin can either delete the group... or keep it if it appears to have any useful content.

Ok, I think there should be so, but this can be done?, now if you delete a person no way to keep the group, right??

In lack of any other answers, why don't you try to test it? Create a test user, create a group, and then delete the user to see what happens to the group...

The group with all its contents are also deleted

Well, that is the way D7 is supposed to work, when a user deletes an account all is input is deleted; in our case, for same strange reason, media files still remain, which is a pain to delete manually from DB.

Maybe changing Groups deletion permissions to "user can not delete group", will keep the group alive even if the user deletes the account. Just an idea, not sure if that works.

This is not totally related - but when someone clicks "my groups" I think it should show the groups they are members of, not groups they own.   I realize that would not be totally consistent, but I think it would make more sense.

Facebook style - owner of page/group leaves the content remains - I looked at this for a places mod - no point in havign members build places or groups and get lots of followers if then one day the creator leaves - only one mod (for places) allows listing to go to NO AUTHOR STATUS and then allow admin to take over and pass to another member: http://www.boonex.com/m/Places_2010_01_18

the mod is limited at the moment as in having ability to have fans etc, compared to features in similar mods on the market, but the creator

kolimarfey

says he will be updating it with new options soon - so maybe this is the guy to get you the type of groups system you want?

that is, nobody knows how to leave the group if the group creator click unregister

Hi,

I believe I told you already, D7 is designed to delete all member contents when they delete their account.

The only way I see possible to keep Groups is by going to your Membership setting and remove/disable the options for the user to delete any group, that meaning, even if they do not delete their account, no member can delete a Group. Attached pic.

Cheline,

I believe that because what you are asking is not a Bug, you haven't got many help. Also, it is not something usual to see here in the forums, you have a very specific request.

Maybe ask a good programmer if it is possible to do this for you, It may not be that expensive. If you need recommendations on a good one, PM me.

Regards
