having to keep activating the same accounts

I have to keep manually activating the same accounts, over and over again.

I want to manually activate all accounts, but not every few minutes.

What do you think could be the cause?

thanks in advance for your help.

Perhaps your cache folder is not writable.

Verify write permissions on the folders cache, cache_public and tmp

I have 755 set on the folders.  Should they be 777?

777 is usuly set to avoid problems, if the directory is owned by the same user that runs the webserver it's ok with 755, but to be sure and since we don't know your setup, please set 777 on cache/ cache_public/ as deano said.

On most servers yes. 777 is what most servers require. But some that are running suphp should be 755. So i cannot tell you for sure.

One way to tell. Remove contents of cache folder manually using ftp or cpanal. Then go to your site. If the cache is rebuilt and the files reappear, then the permissions are ok.

I cleared cache, and they do re-appear.  I have manually approved the same two accounts every time they upload a photo, etc.

hummmm....

Oh, ok, you left that detail out in your origional post.

Admin->Settings->Moderation Settings.

Uncheck the option Do not change profile status after editing profile information:

Save.

That should do it.

So this was already unchecked.

Hummmmmm.....

Sorry for leaving that detail out.

Ok, if that option is off then i am now fresh out of ideas. It should not be happening and have no other ideas as to why it is.

For all new accounts, I have to manually approve.  But all the accounts that I manually approve, I keep having to approve every time they make any profile changes.  I did ensure the check box was unchecked on the settings deano suggested.  I made sure permissions are correct, and cache cleared.

Today I am still having to keep approving profiles, over and over and over and over.  This is very painful for a new website.  Members are getting frustrated and not coming back to my site because it blocks them every time they make any changes to their profile.

Please help me.  I cannot keep going in this direction.

Thanks in advance...

I think you have to check your setting here: Admin->Settings->Moderation Settings

Automatic profile activation after joining: Unchecked (You need to Activat all new member once)

Do not change profile status after editing profile information: Checked (You don't need to do anything after a member make any changes to the profile)
