how to create multiple communities in one site?

I would like to create multiple communities of members on my site.

is it possible? and how?

isnt that what groups does?

if not, I believe there is a database cross mod somewhere... I think it is by scriptologist? Anyway, I believe it allows multiple dolphin sites to pull from the same database.... I could be wrong, but I thought I saw it.

You might want to try the groups module, as said above. You can install it from Administration > Tools > Modules.
