Last year, I installed Dolphin and it was a beautiful thing. It worked perfectly straight "out of the box". Mods were cool too. This year, I'm about to launch a new venture and chose Dolphin as the engine.
I installed the latest version and I've never seen so many problems just getting through the installation. Folders were but files were not listed on the permission page which caused re-work. Once installed, the PATH parameters on the INC pages were not correct. After correction, the site loaded but menu links to BLOG, CLASSIFIEDS and others were not complete thus pages weren't found. Example, the Blog link was set for "blog" not "blog.php". There is no blog folder.
In the middle examining code, I gave up. There's too much that can go wrong by modifying a fresh install. There shouldn't be this many problems so I deleted the entire installation and now we're waiting for version 7 to come out to give it a try.
I know this doesn't answer your question but I share your frustration. |
Are you using goDaddy? Is Kate1 your root directory where Dolphin is loaded? |
howell, most of the mentioned issues you are speaking i have not heard of them, however any and everything is possible when pushing files across the protocols we are to deal with when uploading and downloading a site. seems to me that this would be a classic example of an ftp transfer gone bad if you were missing files. whereas i have installed and uninstalled literally hundreds of dolphin sites i have seen many things go wrong. i think i would suggest uploading the zipped set of files for dolphin, and unpack them from your cPanel. the issue with files giving you the 404 and looking for /blogs that is an SEO feature on dolphin 6.1. mod_rewrite is used for search engine friendliness. the problem there would be the .htaccess that comes with dolphin 6.1 and should be 700+kb in size. if your htaccess is not the same size locally as it is remotely, then your htaccess did not get overwritten when you were doing the transfer. push the htaccess file up to the remote server and overwrite the htaccess that is on your index of root when your account is created. this will resolve the issue of the 404's. well enough rambling for now, hope that has at least cleared up those few items for you. Thanks guy, I've done the FTP upload of unzipped files and the SSH remote extract of zipped files. I've done enough installs to know this shouldn't be THAT difficult. I'm also a little hesitant because of the new version coming out. Instead of busting my a$$ to get this one working THEN performing an upgrade, I'd rather just wait for a new fresh install. Just hope its not buggy too. |
