last problems I found

Ok guys, Im getting there - dolphin is much more complicated to get work smooth than as I initially tought - but at least Im learning new stuff with that :-)

Thanks to unity I have been able to discover mostly all things I have been stuck in but still there are some issues

1) Orca forum dont compile second language - if compiled in modules admin ut says "done", buit language is not compiled in frontend, if I compile again from forum admin it says failed.

2)Orca forum cant be uninstalled, If I uninstall forum it uninstall (I see some err msh in admin while uninstalling) and then after uninstall I cant access frontend - database error, so I have to leave orca installed otherwise I will have database error if I attempt to uninstall

3)Im using dolphin on hostgator shared account and also Im using external joombyte rms server. Everything seems to work fine except if I attempt record sound in sound module - it recordinng, than when I stop recording it goes processing and than I got processing error. An idea whats wrong ? Isnt it because Im using external RMS ?

4)Ads module cant be installed at all with second language. If I install ads with just default english its fine - no prob, If I try install with second language it goes Parsing error in language file on line 1. Even if I translate 1 string and try instal, error is there. All other modules install okay with second language ( except orca ...isuue above). Translated file has correct language name, is saved in utf8 and php syntax is correct. If I make a trick and just rename en.php to cz.php and than try install its okay...but if I translate even one single string in file error is there

5) Privacy settings. User Privacy setting for modules : polls, events, files etc.... shows uncompiled second language like _sys_module_files , _sys_module_feedback etc. Its uncompiled for all modules.

6) In Sites and Files module there is a problem - if I translate for example file menus :File Folders, All FIles, Top Files etc.... to my language and some of menus translation is longer than translated menu names are cut. Like translation for file manus: Vsechny Slozky, Vsechny SOubory, Top Soubory - instead of that I see only first word: Vsechny            , Vsechny              , Top                 , etc..This is same problem for file and sites modules

Is some of that problems related to some known bug which will be fixed in 7.0.1 or its just related to some local miconfiguration on my side ? Any help on that will be welcome :-)

question 1&2 that's on your side it works fine on my site

modules langs. each module has it's own lang file

I know each module has its own lang file - thats why Im surprised I have trouble with langs files for ads and forum ( I know there are 2 files for forum). All other transdlated lang files for other modules installed correctly... hmmm. I found some other users who have also same problems with lang compile problems for orca - I think killerthaai and somebody else have similar prob...

Orca is a hunk of crap anyway.

Orca was a separate product at one time, so rather then writing a new forum from scratch so it would be 100% part of dolphin, they decided to integrate the existing forum product into dolphin.

This is one of the reasons i also reject the idea of integrating any external forum into dolphin. There will always be problems of some kind.

Orca has the potential to be a great forum solution, but even now that it's "integrated" into Dolphin, BoonEx still refuses to continue its needed development.

Orca was developed around a time when, for some reason, the BoonEx team had some odd ideas floating in their heads about the perfect community. And the byproduct of one of their ideas was Orca, which was designed to be self-moderating. Of course, we all know how well that worked out.

I see .... hmmm ... The main prob is that IM stuck with orca now because I cant uninstall it and also the bad part is that  there are some other modules that are depended on forum installation - so if I wańt use them I need install forum which is pretty bad :-(.  Can u guys also look at other pproblems I posted  besides orca ? Also I would welcome ur opinion - can actually d7 be used as live site at stage which is at ?

Correct, the only problem I have is the language compile problem. The forum itsself is working.

On my other D6 sites its not a problem. only D7

Hi there,

I do not have thelanguage issues you describe. Could it be that you started translating on a moment that not all language tags were included? After all, it is a lot of work translating all the files and will have taken you most likely several RC's. Have you also checked that you "escaped" special characters in the correct format (and is the ISO standard supported)? I see text that no longer fits the buttons, etc.

Regarding Orca ...

The "integration" (dependency) on a forum script that is below standards, together with RMS are without a doubt the week points of the Dolphin software. Not saying that there should not be an option to integrate Orca or RMS but there are plenty of other companies out there that do a much better job than Boonex on forums and chat software. The power of Dolphin is the social networking site of things, groups, profiles, etc. The engine of the site, so to speak (although Apache and Dolphin could be better friends(less CPU per logged on user)).

I have been following the progress of the Dolphin software for the past 1 and half years and have seen some good improvements, especially on the privacy side for site members but personally do not think this software is ready for a live site. Dolphin is a beast, the Apache handlers are using on average 5 times as much CPU power than "normal" scripts. This CPU power is not only needed during processing of the page but seems allocated to each logged on user (maybe I have configured something wrong because it seems a lot) But if this is true, you should look at what it costs per member to run your dolphin site and how this is going to repay itself.

As with all software, the .0 version is normally 1 to skip. As you can see, over 180 issues have been accepted as bugs and this list is growing daily. There are still many issues out there that have not been identified as being bugs. A lot of these will make it into the 7.0.1 release, which I suspect will be released somewhere next month (a release every quarter). Depending on the quality of this patch, there will be a 7.0.1.1 release or Boonex will start work on the 7.1 release, which has the features that most people will be looking for. This release will have the profile customization and photo tagging options that gives the script the power it needs and of course some more bug fixes that were left out in 7.0.1(.1). I suspect that 7.1 will be released just before the summer break and this should be a reasonable reliable version to run.

Never the less how stable 7.1 will be, 7.1.1 should be the release to run and go live. Of course, if you can't wait till October than I would wait until the 7.0.1 release, which already addresses some issues with regards to SQL queries, or if you have some time wait for 7.1.

This of course is entirely my opinion and others might disagree.

What I do like to know is, if anyone has looked at the average cost per visitor on his/her Dolphin site and how many logged on visitors they have at peak times and what server is needed to keep good performance.

Thanks  Denre for detailed opinion. You are right with waiting with at least 7.0.1 release. Also I agree d7 is very cpu and memory hungry - Im testing on hostgator shared so I didnt expected some lightning speed but as far I discovered - With 15 people online d7 become that slow that its almost unusable. I cant imagine what heppen if there will be like 30 or more people online ... than  it will be really bad. Anyway Im just testing now and also I didnt expectsome big spped on shared hosting but I thought it will be fine with few people online :-(

ALL: can please somebody have look at my issues 3-6 ?
