When I first started using dolphin, I remember spending the better part of a day being made a fool of by this issue.  To help you find what you may have missed, I'll list all the steps one normally follows when adding a new profile field:

1. In profile field builder you start off on the "Join Form" section.  Unless you want this field left out of your join form, let's add it here.

  • Drag your NEW_ITEM up into the appropriate area,
  • click on it,
  • and fill it in appropriately.

2. So now it's on the Join form, but that's it, it's just collecting info from new joins, now we want our members to be able to edit this field later on, or add it if it was skipped.

  • Move on to the Edit Profile section, and drag the field into the list there as well.
  • Keep in mind, that you want to do this for BOTH Owner, & Admin edit modes.  Otherwise (and this is what got me) they will see it in their edit page, but YOU (the admin) Will not.

3. The next section is View Profile, where you set what shows up on their profiles.

  • Same as before, Add for both Owner, & Admin.  Also you can optionally add for Visitor if you want this to be public information.

4. You can add it to the search section as well if you want this to be searchable.

5. Go back and look at your field on the Join form, Edit page, and your profile. If you see a Language Key, Copy & Paste this into the language settings as a New Key (Admin area for Dolphin -> Settings -> Language Settings -> Add Key).

6. If your site uses multiple languages, Repeat Step 5 for each language.

7. Grab your beverage of choice, recline about 35 degrees back in your chair, smile, and enjoy.
