Before we continue down the troubleshooting rabbit hole... Did you install the module first?

If you did install the module, make sure there's a .htaccess file in the root directory of the installation.

Is there a .htaccess file in the root directory of the installation? It would also help if you told me what web server you are using.

I meant your web server, not the hosting provider. Moving on.

That means the .htaccess file wasn't uploaded. You need to upload this file to have rewritten ("clean") URLs working.

You need the .htaccess files for both rewritten URLs, and security purposes. You might be able to get away with disabling the permalinks under Administration > Settings > Permalinks.

I see. I don't recall the forums having an option to disable permalinks, so unless someone has a workaround, you're probably going to be out of luck.
