not sure how to do http://www.yoursite.com/install

ok im stuck, everytime i get a mod and it ask's me to >>>>> http://www.yoursite.com/install (i know i need to change it to my domain instead of 'yoursite' etc but everytime i change the domain and try to instal the mods all i get is:

Not Found

The requested URL /home/install_chat.php was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

my site is running on 6.1.6 dolphin version

my site domain has got .com/home at the end of it , and thats what im adding when i change the 'yoursite.com' details.

and all the mod files are in my /public_html directory

can someone please help, i need to sort this out asap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

please!!!! cheers

Charlie.

when the requested file is called "chat.php" and that file is in the install folder (or any other folder) you have to write : http://www.yoursite.com/install/chat.php

In you case I think it would be...

http://www.yoursite.com/home/[root to installfile]/[filename.php]

"Not Found

The requested URL /home/install_chat.php was not found on this server"" means that the file install_chat.php isn't directly in your "home" folder.

you have to specify the correct path to the file after the /home

If your file is in the folder "mod" on your homedirectory, then the url is http://www.yoursite.com/home/mod/[filename]

Thanks, ok now this is going to sound really stupid of me but what is my [root to installfile]/[filename.php] ?? is it my cpanel/mysite etc??

no it doesn't sound stupid.

I had to find out for myself too once.

but maybe I didn't explain it right for you

what I meant was

- you have to find the file you need

- then specify backwards. maybe thats easier for you.

Example.

I have a file called "chat.php" and I see that file is in the folder "install" on the home directory

Then the URL would be : http://www.yoursite.com/home/install/chat.php

ok i have confused myself even more, i have uploaded all the files for the mod to my /public_html  so they are just in /public_html in a folder called source, so whould i have to put http://mysite.com/home/source/instalchat.php ???? as i have put that but it still dont work :( sorry to be a pain...

now were getting close...

the files are in the folder "source" directly in your public_html folder

then the url would be... http://www.yoursite.com/source/instal_chat.php

but are you sure you're looking for the file "instal_chat.php" in the source folder? Or is it in another folder inside the source folder. You really have to specify it folder by folder till you get to the phpfile you need

oh i give up :( it's me. i think i have uploaded the files wrong as the file is install_chat.php in a folder called SOURCE in my public.html folder, so i put http://www.mysite.com/home/SOURCE/install_chat.php and that still dont work :(

sorry and thanks for your help but im just wasting ur time, i needed to do this too, god dam it lol

ok, still not sorted :(

i have just found this in the instal files that came with the mod:>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> If you are using a template different than tmpl_uni, then please change the name in the SOURCE folder.

STEP 1: Upload all the files and folder you find in SOURCE folder

im using a dif template than uni but a bit unsure on what name to change in the source folder??? and would this be the reason why it's not working????
