password reset isn't working

My password reset feature isn't working and not properly resetting passwords.  Can anyone tell me how I would go about looking to see where the issue lies?

Have you looked at the cache file - it stores the password. Hence the cache file needs to be removed once you change the password.

Does the password reset call for re-compiling the cache?

I just ran a bunch of rest test and it worked 7/10 times, which is confusing it is not 10/10.  I don't know why it wouldn't work some of those times, but I do know some of my users were unable to reset at all.

If I may, I would like to revisit this issue.  My members are complaining that the password that gets sent to them if they have forgotten the password is not working.  Does anyone have any ideas on this?

My best guess is a cache issue.

And / Or there computer trying to use a saved password (auto fill).

the problem is cache. and if you clear the cache directory, not clear cache from admin, because that doesnt work 100% as is par for the course.

so try sending for a new password, dump the cache directory, then try to login with the password that was sent.

also, some of this could be caused by changing the username. i have seen that, and this is also part of the cached system as well.

I appreciate everyones input on this, however, some other solution needs to be found, It would be impossible for site owners to constantly be dumping cache just in case someone forgets their password.  I only know about a few cases that this has happened because members have got in contact and advised, but what about the ones that have just given up and never return to the site.

Is this an actual bug or is there a setting that needs to be adjusted?

It's definitely a usability bug, but the function may be working as intended but needs to be revisited and updated. I'll put a ticket in and see if anything happens.

ahhh that explains why some of my members complain about this.  I had no idea so i reset the password for them.  Thanks for finding this.  :)

Here's the ticket, they marked it as invalid since they can't reproduce it.  If your members have experienced this problem please report it in this thread.

My "forgotten password" reset function is not working properly either. It sends out a password, and when I try to input it, it says its invalid. If I try again, it sends a new password which again does not work.

The problem starts from a joining point though. I have a "Forced Membership" mod installed from JooSocial and regardless of trying to join on the free or paid account, it will not let me into the account. It says that the account is invalid, which is the reason for requesting the lost password - which doesnt work either.

If I go in and manually change the pw of the account in the admin area, it logs in just fine.. however this is obviously not something I wish to do for every new comer!

Any ideas?

(PS - JooSocial installed the mod himself to ensure no errors in his script)

Hey guys!  We seriously need to look into this!  I'm sick and tired of getting 2-5 emails about this issue in one week!  I don't understand because I tested myself and it seems to be okay. Maybe it has to do with their browsers or systems.   I'm using 7.0.1 and it has been like this since 7.0.0.  Anyone has this problem too?

Mauricecano, did you fix the issue? :/

I think this is pretty serious.  Can anyone confirm this?  Password reset is acting weird.  I dont' think it's 100% working. :/

Guys this it totally not working. Several of my members CAN NOT login and have tried to reset their passwords unsuccessfully.

This is pretty much FUBAR. Please Help!

I was also experiencing this issue users were trying to reset passwords would get the email from the system but the password would not work, I would go in and manually reset the password and it still would not allow the user to login.

When I actually did this the one time I got your IP address has been banned which is weird and strange because I could login to the admin panel.  Last night I had turned on the Anti-Spam tools and I think this is the issue because once I turned them off the site started functioning properly again my reset passwords now worked and the reset password that is sent by email also works.

Anti-Spam settings can be accessed here:  Settings > Advanced Settings > Security

Turn off Enable DNS Block List (Unchecked)

Turn off Enable URI DNS Block Lists (Unchecked)

Turn off Total Block All Spam Content (Unchecked)

Akismet can't confirm or deny because I do not have an Akismet account.

I do have this one checked:  Send report to admin if spam content discovered.

When I had the anti-spam turned on the site basically stopped functioning.  These tools apparently aren't ready for production use.  I hope this helps to resolve some of the issues you guys are having.

Hi there,

we have a similar situation, but managed to find out why...

We have changed the mandatory profile fields. Of course this only affects new registrations. However, old registrations will be affceted when editing the profile, meaning, the new mandatory fields would need to be filled  or changes will not be saved.

If an old member requests a new password and the new mandatory fields are missing, the system will be unable to edit and save his profile with his new password, meaning the user gets a new password but this does not work,,,as simple as that...we have had to manually reset all these passwords...

Hopes this sheads some light on this issue, at least for some here.

Regards

This didn't work for me initially we had also made some changes to the mandatory fields but when I would reset the password through the administrative panel it still wouldn't stick and I would just fill in the mandatory fields and tell the user to change it when they logged in but the password wouldn't stick.  I hope this does resolve some issues for some users also seems like it could be a few things broken or not working as intended.

Again, no problem there: we would edit the profile, fill in the missing mandatory fields, add and confirm a new password, saved and all perfect...

I am having the same issue using 7.0.6 and I had to manually clear the caches several times before to would work.

Is there a way to have the caches purge periodically?
