I'd like to replace Orca Forum with phpBB3 on my recently installed Dolphin 7 account..
I had an eSase integration which worked a while back on another website, I see lots of talk back and forth about the new one and/or a free one? but no LINK to where to download from?
Anybody been successful in installed/integrating the BB3? |
The only integrations I'm aware of are in the market. BoonEx Certified Host: Zarconia.net - Fully Supported Shared and Dedicated for Dolphin |
its not an integration, and does not work very well. most have been disappointed with the purchase. When a GIG is not enough --> Terabyte Dolphin Technical Support - Server Management and Support |
It seems ESASE's integration isn't even available anymore, actually. BoonEx Certified Host: Zarconia.net - Fully Supported Shared and Dedicated for Dolphin |
yeah, it was too drastic to try to support, the cookies and sessions did not get along. it was an iframe wrap that caused many problems with the login share.
i worked on and continue to battle an account where not only was the esase integration purchased, but also in excess of one thousand dollars to another developer so that it was not an iframe wrap, but a true integration. that was a waste of time effort and hope.
unless the forum is written into a module and the user interaction is all relevant to the dolphin structure, then i would suggest, this is not a good route.
if you have plenty of time to anguish, then go for it. though i think deano and others put quite a bit of effort into integrating other forums into dolphin, and it just never seemed to work out in the end.

I'm glad this post came up. I, too, would like to put a phpBB 3 forum in my Dolphin 7.0.6 site. Esase let me know he pulled the phpBB/Dolphin integration and may attempt it again after Dolphin 8 comes out.
dolphinbugfixing let me know he could do the phpBB3/Dolphin 7.0.6 integration, but I am reluctant because I haven't seen anyone actually talk about their phpBB3/Dolphin 7.0.6 being successfully executed (or by whom).
By the way, if you do have a successfully integrated phpBB3/Dolphin 7.0.6, please PM me the address so I can check it out.
I did see that kingofalltrades dot com has a phpBB /Dolphin integration, but I'm not sure which phpBB or which Dolphin and I haven't received a response back from the PM I sent him.

kingofalltrades is the site, i was referencing with a price tag of about $1900/ after the purchase of the esase integration, and hiring a very well known coder from here on boonex to fully integrate, it was pointless.
that is the exact site i base my analogy on.
i also think fishingbuddynetwork.com.au has an integration, as to how its functioning, i dont have any relative feedback on that one. though i do see its running phpbb3.
if dolphinbugfixing says they can do it, i would ask for proof of concept, and i would inquire of the site owner, of some of the issues that have been faced>

If your looking for a perfect integration, your not going to get it. Simply because Dolphin, phpBB, vBulletin etc. coded are very differently.
I hired dolphinbugfixing to do a vBulletin integration and I will say this.. it is a well written integration, they put allot of work into writing the code and the price they charge is a fair price. But I have to caution you, When they fist did the integration it had some problems with links not pointing to the proper places. And I have to admit my experience in communicating with him/them was a bit frustrating. However they did take care of everything I asked them to fix.
So would I would hire them again. The answer is yes. But if I were you I would wait for Dolphin 8. And then go for it because this is not considered a module. It is considered custom work and I highly doubt you will get a free upgrade.
Give me something to believe in... |
Hi, Thank you all for the comments.. Looks like I will stick with the ORCA forum
I did sucessfully integrate phpBB3 into the Fishingbuddynetwork.com.au site using Deanos tool back then, but the fishingbuddy network is running an older version of Dolphin now and I am not sure if they have upgraded to a more recent release.. The phpBB3 forum worked VERY well, had very few cookie issues, and used same login as the dolphin login.. but hey, that was then :)
Thanks again all.. will revert to ORCA

thats said, now ORCA is not working :) Looks like I am missing out on both..
Tried uninstall, reinstall, recompile..
Will persevere!

When I click on FORUM I just get a blank page, even from ADMIN
http://www.cairnslearntodive.com.au/buddynetwork/forum/
tried uninstalling, installing, recompiling.. Could it be a setting on teh server that is not giving the right permissions? or even a .htaccess issue? I never checked at install as I have been setting up a bunch of other modules
any suggestion is greatly appreciated!
