pretty urls not working for me

hi all,

i have installed 7.07 as a an upgrade to 7.06 but hadn't tested the initial install so cant tell where the problem may lay but... when i go to pages with non-pretty url's they work and when i go to pages with pretty url's they don't.

would anyone have a poiter for me?

pretty url's = 'mysite.com/m/chat/home/' - not working

non-pretty url's = 'mysite.com/browse.php' - working?

thanks in advance,

pSouper

Make sure there's a .htaccess file in the root directory of your installation.

If you're not using Apache as your web server, you won't be able to use pretty URLs and will have to disable them. You can disable pretty URLs from Administration > Settings > Permalinks.

 Not true at all.

It is true that some web servers are compatible with Apache's .htaccess and others can interpret the rewrite rules with a plugin.

Thanks for the tip -  I am using Apache and .htaccess but couldn't get it working - as it turns out, you made me recheck the file anf I noticed that the FTP app (transmit) had named the .htaccess file without the dot - just htaccess not .htaccess  - very strange :D
