I heard that if you have a full lic the free RMS wouldn't support you anymore, that would need to be confirmed... If looking for a hosting/RMS deal check out the new D7 package with free RMS at gigapros.com |
In 2009, BoonEx officially retired their free Media Server service, in favor of focusing on their software. Instructions can be found at: http://www.boonex.com/trac/ray/wiki/RayServerInstall - and yes, Java is required to be installed on your server, or else the Media Server will not work. As for requirements, running the Media Server can be quite demanding, especially if it gets heavy use. The streaming of high-bandwidth media is not something for people with a small, fixed bandwidth limit (for larger sites, smaller communities need not worry as much). Is it posible to get RMS hosting that I can then allow my dolphin site to connect to? Cheers Ped |

One reputable Dolphin web hosting company that offers stand-alone Media Server hosting is Terabyte Hosting Solutions, founded by DosDawg, a member on Unity and avid Dolphin user. If you want to use a Media Server with your Dolphin web site, you must purchase your own hosting space for it. Say it isn't sooooooo! I went to all the trouble to move my hosting to one of the Boonex reccommended Dolphin servers just so I could get Dolphin set up mostly the draw was the av chat and the services that require RMS . . . only to now discover that the people are saying the free rms is no longer available even though the webpage at http://www.boonex.com/products/bms/ is still live and says the service is still available. The Boonex reccommended service I signed up with Hostupon does NOT have RMS available for the Dolphin-compatible plan and they just told me to use the free RMS from Boone. I put in the free server address into my admin and the programs still don't work so I searched the forum and found the threads that BMS is evidently dead. It is not practical for me to cut my new hosting plan which is bought and paid for (and supposedly compatible) and go seek out yet another. If Boonex is no longer supporting it . . . then they really need to put a note on the BMS page and say so AND they need to change the advertising on the host partners that don't support it so that folks don't get shifted into the wrong plan with no alternatives. Grrrrr. Is there are free or ultracheap workaround for those of us in similar situations. Or, is the scuttlebut about it not being supported untrue and the BMS page is correct so there must be some other reason I am not getting connected (apps are registered and seem to work but never connect). All the best, Brian |
