setting permissions

I am not the most savvy when it comes to this - trying to set permissions, should they be writable for ; owner, group, everyone? - all three?

using net2ftp file manager

Depends on what your setting.

If the dolphin instructions say 777 then it's all 3.  The first 7 is owner, the second is group and the third is everyone.

Depends on what folder/file you are setting permissions for. So I cannot answer that. Most common are 644, 666, 755, and 777.
