shorten join form

I have a couple questions.  I'd like to shorten the join field.  I see I have tons of hits for the join.php but the bounce rate is really high.  I'd figure if I can make it as short as possible, this would help.

1) What fields are necessary for dolphin to run correctly?  I'd like to get their name and email address and that is all at first.  I'd like for them then to hit submit.  After they hit submit, that info creates an account but takes them to a page that makes them fill in more on their profile.

How can I do this?

Just keep few major fields in the join and direct them to the pedit.php?id={memberID} at the members.php file.

I saw a mod that Deano post on how you can control the entry page in a nice way by adding a variable too and I like this way better since you don't need to hard coded your in the member.php

Your saying that the mod from Deano is the way to go?
