upgrade question

This will be my first time ever upgrading my Dolphin site. I want to know if I will lose any customizations and or modifications when I upgrade from 7.0 to 7.0.1?

Modifications to actual files might be overwritten, so you should make sure all your changes are documented at all times. Third-party module may also have compatibility issues where they cannot be installed, but this can be solved by changing the version string in their configuration file under ./modules/boonex/[module]/install/config.php.

As always make a backup before upgrading.

Thanks magnussoft, now if I were to take out a certain file out of my upgrade install, would that affect the upgrade any? Like my language file is all that I really need to save. Can I take out the language file in my upgrade version so that way when I upgrade it, my original language file will still remain in tack?

And another question I have is how important is an upgrade really? Would it be unjustified to wait for the next stable version?, like 7.1? instead of making snail upgrades?

Dolphin 7.1 will not be available until the end of the year, possibly, judging from the release time frames at BoonEx. I do not suggest remaining on an older release of the script, especially when you can upgrade to the latest release. There are far too many fixes and security changes to be ignored.

I suggest you not modify any files in the patch, and only make any needed changes after you have completed the upgrade process. As always, it is recommended you keep any changes you make to the script's code well documented, so upgrades remain hassle-free. Concerning your language file, I am unaware of this being overwritten, but even if it is, let it be, and replace it afterward with your modified copy.

@DeeEmm, thank you, I'm glad to see people are enjoying my signature. However, it's a hassle to keep posting with it, so I'm going to retire it until it's more feasible (I can't let others beat me in support over time spent adding an image to the bottom of all of my posts).
