urgent removal of recaptcha?

I have people trying to sign up to my site but a majority have had a problem where recaptcha has not shown up and its asking for the recaptcha code. Especially in chrome. My site uses SSL which I know has been known to cause problems.

Is there a way to remove recaptcha from the sign up page? because that is the important bit. I'm using 7.2 can anyone help?
