To be fair, I don't believe allot of online service actually allow you to register an account with spaces. I recall a discussion on this before, but I'd need to dig it up. I run a forum with vBulletin.. and also a site with Joomla ..both these allow spaces. of course we are comparing apples to oranges here with looking at joomla and dolphin and with vbulletin and dolphin. there is no comparison in performance between dolphin and those two cms's. so what is the big deal with a name with a space in it. if you must have it i think you can contact mrp or jt and ask them to hack your registration files and i am sure they can take care of that for you. but as a standard, and i can tell you this from experience, its a bad idea to pass a '' to the database even if its going to be parsed with some predetermined character. just bad practice and goes against naming conventions when dealing with a database. You'd think in this day and age Boonex would have worked out how to have usernames with spaces ...grrrrr i do it "usernames with spaces" like that in my site (Hebrew): return ( preg_match( '/^[ פםןוטארקףךלחיעכגדשץתצמנהבסזa-zA-Z0-9_-]+$/', $arg0 ) and !file_exists( $dir['root'] . $arg0 ) ); this is give me the possibility for my user get "usernames with spaces" whene they get Join to the site. hope that help you man :) |
